With the large number of RAF bases and Army camps, unfortunately many now closed, large numbers of veterans stayed and some met and married local girls.

I am a member of two veteran groups; one is for national service (RAF) which has a healthy membership and meets once every two months for a get together with lunch.

The other is the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association which also holds meetings every two months.

Many of the members are in their late 70s and 80s, it is getting harder to find places of interest to visit.

The main problem with ex-servicemen is loneliness as they have always had their pals and mates around them.

With the British Nuclear Test Veterans they are fighting the MoD who deny that they came to any harm during the period 1952 to 1963 from the effects of radiation.

We have heard lies and promises have all been broken, the MoD will not even listen to the experts.
