Reader letter: My critique of the NDR - ‘I am disgusted with the quality of the planning’

Now that some sections of the NDR have been opened I feel it is a good time to give feedback to the people who were entrusted with the design of this road system which is near my home in Spixworth.
Unfortunately I feel the design smacks of something that was completed late one afternoon before leaving off.
First the dangerous bits:
The roundabouts — these are basically unlit and are not of a particularly good shape resulting in poor traffic flow and a number of accidents in the first few days of opening including vehicle tracks going straight across on two occasions that I noticed.
The lack of lighting is, I feel, quite reckless and unusual, even mini roundabouts in villages tend to be lit. Signage is also poor and would be of little use to those unfamiliar with the area.
The Spixworth/Buxton Road — this road has been a problem for years with no real link to the B1150 North Walsham Road. Why is there no access to/from the NDR other than the usual “rat runs” of White Woman Lane or Crostwick Lane, both built up areas that would benefit from less traffic not more? Why was the opportunity to link these roads via the NDR overlooked? Common sense, it appears, is sadly lacking these days.
Now last but by no means least — Rackheath Lane, what on earth were the planners thinking of to close this road, a road used by many to get from Spixworth to Salhouse or Wroxham and further afield?
Now we are forced to use even smaller country lanes or the NDR to travel to these places, extending the time and the distance for no real apparent reason. Have they any idea how much more fuel will be required on these local journeys, or the burden of cost this places on those living in the locality?
Personally I am disgusted with the quality of the planning. I wouldn’t rate it more than three out of 10. It appears no real thought was given to the views of those it impacts on the most despite the number of meetings held to supposedly take these views on board prior to the start of the project.
