With two adult sons living away from home, I'm claiming my 50s as my time, learning new things, reshaping a decent weekend social life and not having to worry if the fridge is stocked and I'm home to cook a Saturday curry or Sunday roast.
It's an energising force, when you realise that your time is your own once again and the rest of your life is there to be lived as you please once again, the mother's job done and dusted.
So to read that Brigitte Nielsen is pregnant at 54, with four adult sons is incomprehensible. What is she thinking?

But give me varicose veins and bunions any day over sleepless nights, leaky breasts and dealing with the 'terrible twos' in my menopausal 50s and stroppy teenagers in my 60s.
