People who become councillors do not run for office because they want to make cuts.
Yet, in the cash-strapped world of local government, that's what they find themselves having to do year after year.
Our local councillors are in an invidious position and you have to feel sorry for them.
However, with the latest proposed round of cuts, it is frustrating so much detail seems to be being kept back.
The council is talking about saving money by sharing services, which could see children's centres sharing buildings with libraries.
They say that could save £5m, but cannot provide a list of where these changes might happen or whether there will still be 53 children's centres afterwards.
It's hard to understand how they can have a figure for the saving, yet not be able to give details of the impact.
