In his latest weekly column, Norwich City correspondent and PinkUn Show host Michael Bailey looks at Angus Gunn and the Manchester City reality, plus all those signings.

A few questions tend to pop up at regular intervals while covering Norwich City – thankfully it's been a while since anyone asked about the way I pronounce Alex Neil.

As for this season's front-runner, it has legs 'like Kate Moss' and a name to make any Canary beam from ear to ear.

During the summer, there were sizeable question marks. Angus Gunn was parachuted in to the only Championship club likely to offer their number one jersey to a player yet to make a single professional outing.

After all, this is Norwich City and a man called Gunn. The romance has never been far from the story.

The fact Angus has been playing senior football only since August was a point emphasised by his legendary dad, Bryan – at the same time telling me how that save at Bristol City owed most to his many hours of goalkeeping drills at his respective training grounds. I have to say, I actually think the save from Willian in the marathon FA Cup replay at Chelsea was better.

Curiously I'm writing all this just after the closest thing we've seen this season to a Gunn error – possibly staying too deep as Alex Tettey's needless back pass ultimately cost Norwich any hopes of a positive result from their Sheffield United visit.

Should he have come? I'm not an expert on goalkeeper positioning yet I would've liked him to meet Clayton Donaldson and make life a little more difficult for the striker.

Of course, once his decision was made Angus had little option to change it. And Tettey still should have simply knocked the ball out for a throw.

Yes, that question still comes at regular intervals: What are the chances of Angus Gunn staying at Norwich City into next season? For me, it's the same question as how likely is it Norwich City will be playing Premier League football? And therefore the same answer.

It's easy to look at things through Norwich City eyes and the homegrown part of Gunn's heart will make a longer stint in Norfolk appeal.

But of course there is Manchester City to consider in all this – an English goalkeeper with the quality to go to the very top is worth more than even they could probably afford.

Gunn's form even offers enough to pose the question of England involvement come the World Cup in Russia this summer.

There is no doubt he loves it here, and the chance to play for his home-town club will mean so much to him – but once that is done, it feels like the reasoned business of his professional career will take over, along with all the possibilities that brings.

And what a position for him to be in, learning something special at the club he used to call home.

'Yes I've come here to improve myself, but also to improve the team,' said Gunn – a man hard to pin down on his own prospects over his collective team goals.

'We are 11 players on the pitch and the bench as well, so we're a squad here. Everyone works together and doesn't look at themselves too much.

'And I think if we work well as a team then you get the individual plaudits from that afterwards.

'Definitely I'm benefiting. Anyone who plays regular football benefits from that. I think personally I am and all the other lads on the pitch are as well.

'For any player, consistency and playing is the big thing. But for younger players, it's getting the confidence as well – and all our young guys have been playing really well recently. We were close at Chelsea. We were close on Saturday as well. So if we keep battling together, stick together and work hard then I think we can keep going up the table.'

Forget looking beyond the summer. It's the fact Norwich City are getting to enjoy Angus Gunn right here and now that all fans should appreciate.

• It was a tough weekend for City fans, given what Sheffield United managed to achieve on Saturday – and more than enough has been said and written about all that already.

But with what has happened since – signing four players and three fully involved for the remainder of the current season – there should at least be a dollop of fresh light peering down on the club as they head to Brentford at the weekend.

And it's a relevant opponent, given the Bees have made an art form of scouting talent that has proven able to make a name and an impact in the Championship, to Brentford's benefit either on the pitch or in their books.

The new City players will have to show what they've got before we can judge exactly how good the business has been and how excited the fans can get.

But let's be honest, it still represents a better place than the threadbare squad of the previous weekend.
