High winds have forced the UEA to close University Drive until tomorrow morning due to an unstable tree.

Gale force winds are expected to hit the region overnight as The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind for East Anglia and the majority of England between 9pm tonight and 11am tomorrow.

Wind speeds could reach between 50-60mph early tomorrow morning and between 70-75mph in coastal areas.

University Drive is now shut from the lodge to Earlham Road until mid-morning tomorrow due to a 'dangerous tree'.

A UEA spokesman said: 'The Sportspark car park is open - with restricted access - Sportspark users need to enter and leave the campus via Bluebell Road.

'The Enterprise Centre Car park will be closed from tonight until the works are complete.

'Buses 26 & 22 will enter campus from Bluebell Road, travel down Chancellors Drive to the bus turn around at the bottom of Chancellors Drive, back up and right at the Lodge and then set down and pick up at the main bus stop outside the main car park.

'Buses 25, National Express & Mega Bus are not affected.

'Pedestrians are able to exit the campus onto Earlham Road and a diversion is in place behind The Enterprise Centre.

'Cow Drive is not affected, however cyclists will not be able to turn right and travel along University Drive through to Earlham Road. Cyclists will be diverted ( on foot rather than bike) around the back to The Enterprise Centre in order to leave the campus onto Earlham Road.

'The City Council tree surgeons are due tomorrow morning.

'The UEA Grounds team are unable to deal with this tree due to the size of it, and the contractors which UEA usually use are not able to obtain the appropriately sized equipment any sooner than the City Council.'

Elsewhere First Norwich bus services 11 and 12 are diverting via Consitution Hill and Wall Road due to a fallen chimney stack on Sprowston Road.
