A Sprowston couple have pleaded guilty to neglect following the death of their seven-week-old baby.

Jessica Lindsay and Shane Riley, of Avocet Rise, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Thursday charged with neglect of a person under 16 years.

The court heard how their child, Lyle Riley, died from suffocation on February 4, 2017.

No further details about the circumstances of the child's death were mentioned during the hearing.

Speaking outside the courtroom, the couple, along with Lindsay's father, Stewart, said it had been a 'tragic accident'.

Mr Lindsay said his 30-year-old daughter, and Riley, 37, had allowed the baby to sleep in their bed.

He said the couple attempted to resuscitate their child and called 999.

Sentencing was adjourned to June 22.

Judge Bate imposed a curfew on the couple from 9pm to 6am each night at their home address.
