Pairs winners Peter and Andrew Wilkinson have their sights on their second title in the space of five days at the Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls today.
The Wilkinson brothers, with Mick Steppings, are in the semi-finals of the Nottingham Bowls Shop sponsored mens triples, where they will face the all Carter triple from Cantley – Adam, Chris and Mathew.
The Wilkinson triple reached the last eight by beating Richard Church, Barry Hunt and Brian Taylor on the very last end, which saw Taylor hold the two they required to force the game into an extra end, only for Peter to draw the winning shot.
The winners had another last gasp victory in the quarter-finals against John Tufts, Alan Willer and Michael Tufts, who were two shots up on the last end – only for Wilkinson to get the three required to go through.
The Carter triple reached the semi-finals by beating Jason Roope, Gary Gooderum and Paul Shackcloth 18-14.
In the other semi Rocky Lewis, Mick King and Mark Riches face the Caister triple of Graham Punchard, Alan Bennet-Nutt and Barny Wymer, who won yesterday’s games 17-13 and 18-13. Riches’ triple beat Thomas Cooper, Paul Tyrell and Graham Downing 21-13 before Mick delivered the decisive draw with the last bowl to beat Charlie West, Chris Wilgress and Wayne Wilgress 17-16.
Today also sees the semi-finals of the Great Yarmouth Tourist Board- sponsored ladies pairs with Rachel Clarke and Tracy Knights playing June Merrett and Jean Stephans while Brenda Whitehead and Enid Adams face singles champion Shelia Hardingham and Pam Rolph.
