Wensum A have won the Premier A title in the Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League for the second year running.
With the end of the season fast approaching, Wensum A recorded a conclusive 9-1 victory over fourth-placed Gothic A – even without Lauren Spink.
Jake and Ryan Collins, supported by Tony Zeqiri, took all their singles to show Gothic a clean pair of heels, despite Philip Logsdon putting up a good fight.
In the battle to avoid relegation, Gothic B came good with a 7-3 victory over CEYMS B to move 11 points clear of Briston, who have two games in hand. Alan Clitheroe starred for CEYMS B, taking all his singles.
In Division One, Taverham C’s Jack Harrowing recorded a brace against Returners A, as did Jamie Leeder, and the pair teamed up to win the doubles and gain a valuable team draw.
An impressive maximum from Ian Layt and two wins from Andrew Leeds and Stuart Cooper gave Foxwood an 8-2 win over Wensum H, for whom Holly Stubbings won the two. Foxwood C entertained Missionaries, but there were no celebrations to follow, as Missionaries never made it to the winner’s enclosure, losing 10-0.
In Division Two, a keenly-contested match between Wensum J and CEYMS F ended in a deserved draw. It took a 3-2 win in the last game of the evening by Will Crater over Paul Brown to secure two points for CEYMS F. Wensum J were helped by a fine maximum from Bill Watts.
Gothic D returned to winning ways for the second week, beating Remploy A 6-4 thanks to fine maximums from Alan Hough and Steve Andrews.
In Division Three, Stephanie Thompson was in top form, finishing off on the final game of the evening to give Foxwood F a 6-4 win over UEA D.
