Norwich City’s new goalkeeping coach Tony Parks believes he has some impressive raw material to work with at the club following his recent appointment to replace Southampton-bound England goalkeeping coach Dave Watson.
Parks’ was officially unveiled as the latest member of Neil Adams’ backroom team last week and is working closely with John Ruddy, Declan Rudd and Remi Matthews during the club’s Italian pre-season training trip, with Mark Bunn remaining back at Colney.
“I’ve come in to work with some top class goalkeepers,” he told the club’s official site. “I know John (Ruddy) and Declan (Rudd) from their days in England squads when I was a national coach, and I’ve been very impressed with Mark Bunn’s ability and Remi Matthews as well. It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to come to Norwich – to work with the quality that was already here.
“John has been ranked among the top Premier League goalkeepers for the last couple of years, and rightly so. His performances, his work ethic and his attitude are commendable. I don’t see any reason why John can’t get back into the England squad, he certainly has that ability and from what I’ve seen on the training ground, he has the drive and commitment to want to do that as well. Hopefully I can bring my experience to the table, not only in terms of the goalkeeping but in terms of working with different managers and the manager here.”
