Scottish PFA ‘dismay’ over newco Rangers owner’s Steven Whittaker claims

The Scottish PFA are “dismayed” by comments from newco Rangers owner Charles Green that he will pursue legal claims against the players who refused to join his new company.
PFA Scotland and their lawyers believe the players are free agents under employment law but Green has vowed to fight for transfer money. Ex-Rangers defender Steven Whittaker was unveiled as a Norwich player at Carrow Road yesterday, one of the first of 10 wantaway players to find a new club.
Tony Higgins, chairman of PFA Scotland, said they were “supremely confident” the players were entitled to seek moves, adding: “I haven’t spoken to a single employment or sports solicitor who agrees with Mr Green’s interpretation of the law,’’ he said.
City boss Chris Hughton did not want to discuss the legal technicalities of Whittaker’s move, saying: “These matters are dealt with from club to club and, here at Norwich and before my time, they’ve always done things the right way.”

Sensible Canarypostergirl, it`s a pity Wilby wasn`t a bit younger when we got him. He was such a good, honest and clever player, he would have thrived. Palace have got a good guy there. I`ll keep an eye on how he does. I wonder if C. Martin might be joining him? I see Steven Naismith has signed for Everton.

Well with the SPL overwhelming rejecting Rangers Newco taking part in the SPL next season it seems that those players who declined to have their contracts transferred have made a very wise move. I don't think Green has a leg to stand on with regards to compensation for the players who have now joined new clubs. He should have thought about the implications before doing what he has done. Hughton moved quickly and has got a classy attacking fullback for nothing. And that to me is great business!! And very good wishes to Wilbraham as well. Fine honest player in my book.

Yes, I looked up Sion and they escaped relegation in some sort of play-off arrangement. Apparently, had they not lost the 36 points, they would have finished 3rd & got into Europa League. Just read on BBC that Coventry have signed John Fleck by agreement with the "Rangers" Newco. Interesting. Perhaps young Fleck had agreed to a contract offer from Newco? Something was different. Aaron Wilbraham has signed for Crystal Palace. Good luck, Wilby!

It is amazing that Sion stayed up despite the 36 point deduction. They are actually quite good, by local standards. There is plenty of cash in Swiss football, all of it from endogenous dodgy sources. Don't forget where Sep Blatter comes from, even if he has turned over a new leaf!

This Green bloke must be running scared. Perhaps he`s played a big bluff and 10 EX- Rangers players have called it. He`ll be trying to fetch in compo from Sion of Switzerland, too. Now there`s another dodgy outfit. Probably get paid in chocolate cuckoo clocks, via Trotter`s Independent Trading of Paris, London & Peckham. If at all.

Hughton handled that question very well in the interview, stepping in and protecting the player. Newco Rangers are just trying to hold on to as much as they can but the balance of the argument seems to be against them.
