While the Murphys enjoyed their fair share of the limelight, it was the performance of a more established hand that caught the eye – even of his team-mates.
It’s been a tough season for David Fox: some way from first-team involvement under Chris Hughton and limited action on his subsequent loan to Barnsley after suffering from mumps.
But now back at Carrow Road, the midfielder slotted in seamlessly on his return to Carrow Road action for City’s FA Cup third round draw with Fulham.
The matchday sponsors named him their man of the match; the man barely put a pass wrong all afternoon.
“It was quite funny because he came in to the changing room afterwards and everyone was calling him Pirlo,” said Canaries centre-back Ryan Bennett.
“We know the qualities he’s got. He’s an unbelievable player and if you give him the ball, he’ll pick anything out. So it was a great personal note from him and he played a great game.”
Bennett admitted having to take on an FA Cup replay was far from the desirable result for City, but Chris Hughton’s squad will be far from downbeat after failing to beat Fulham for the second time in 10 days.
“It’s not ideal and it adds another midweek game to the fixtures, but I think we played well and we can take positives from that. We went out with a 4-3-3 which was a positive move for us, to try to win the game, we had the better chances and were probably the better team. It was just that we didn’t get the result.”
