While the Murphys enjoyed their fair share of the limelight, it was the performance of a more established hand that caught the eye – even of his team-mates.

It’s been a tough season for David Fox: some way from first-team involvement under Chris Hughton and limited action on his subsequent loan to Barnsley after suffering from mumps.

But now back at Carrow Road, the midfielder slotted in seamlessly on his return to Carrow Road action for City’s FA Cup third round draw with Fulham.

The matchday sponsors named him their man of the match; the man barely put a pass wrong all afternoon.

“It was quite funny because he came in to the changing room afterwards and everyone was calling him Pirlo,” said Canaries centre-back Ryan Bennett.

“We know the qualities he’s got. He’s an unbelievable player and if you give him the ball, he’ll pick anything out. So it was a great personal note from him and he played a great game.”

Bennett admitted having to take on an FA Cup replay was far from the desirable result for City, but Chris Hughton’s squad will be far from downbeat after failing to beat Fulham for the second time in 10 days.

“It’s not ideal and it adds another midweek game to the fixtures, but I think we played well and we can take positives from that. We went out with a 4-3-3 which was a positive move for us, to try to win the game, we had the better chances and were probably the better team. It was just that we didn’t get the result.”

  • What are you lot like. Don't you remember his last few games in a City shirt. That's why he's on the outside looking in. 90 minutes in one FA Cup game. For goodness sake !

  • Foxy has the genuine ability to put the ball exactly where he wants it , when used properly he can dictate games creating chance after chance . Top player that has been undervalued and ignored by CH and his cronies for too long .

  • Let's face it, without a midfield crisis, would Foxy be back at Norwich... NO.... Why? because "The Man Who Knows Best" don't fancy him, can't see him doing a lot if he stays, only warming the bench, it's a sad state of affairs, what has happened at NCFC, in One and a Half seasons, there is hardly anyone left, who has tasted success, 21700 fans packed into "Carra" rd, when half the games played were to half filled stadiums, we deserve better than to see one of the best passes of the ball, get loaned out, waiting for someone to offer a few quid, to get rid... cos I don't fancy him... I'll spend 8million and buy someone I fancy, Make good business sense that.

  • If David Fox can put it that kind of performance every game he would surely make himself irreplaceable, the passing was indeed top class.

  • Always rated Fox and will continue to do so. Unfortunately he was sent away to Barnsley by our 'manager' so I very much doubt we'll be seeing him back in the team permanently.

  • And yet will we see him coming near the first team squad for a premiership game any time soon, I very much doubt it, unless Houghton is prepared to change the line up without being forced to do so
