Norwich City club captain Russell Martin revealed Neil Adams had already made a huge first impression on his first day in charge of the Canaries.
Adams made an impassioned plea to the club’s first team players to go out and prove they are good enough to win City’s Premier League relegation fight. The FA Youth Cup winning coach will be in charge for the trip to Fulham at the start of a critical five-game run.
“If there were any doubters amongst the lads there are certainly none now. He imposed himself on us when he spoke to us,” said Martin. “It was inspiring and the lads have full belief in him. What came across is we are too good to be in the position we are, but this is still in our hands and we control our destiny. The boys are looking forward to it. It was one of those chats where the lads would have played tomorrow if they could. There is certainly a different feel around the place.
“The ones who had not been featuring recently now have a chance to impress the new manager, regardless of whether he has come from inside the building or not. He has been watching the games, he knows the strengths and weaknesses and I am sure he has some ideas on the style of play and formations. Whenever you get a new man in it creates a fresh impetus. He’s said he will make a few changes and if you are not on board you will be out the side.”
Martin retains an unshakeable belief Adams’ Norwich will survive, despite a wretched recent run that culminated in Chris Hughton’s exit after a 1-0 home defeat to West Brom.
“He will bring a freshness and a lot of time that can galvanise people,” said the Scottish international. “He has already told us we will go down to Fulham and look to win the game. There is no other way with him and for a group of lads to hear he has 100pc belief in us to play the way he wants us to play is great to hear. He doesn’t have a long period of time, but it is certainly long enough to impress his ideas on us and impose his own style and character. We look forward to working with him.”
