Nathan Redmond is the latest Norwich City wide player linked with a potential January transfer exit to Premier League rivals Swansea City.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The England Under-21 starlet rejected the Swans in the summer to link up again with Chris Hughton at Carrow Road after their time together at Birmingham.

The Mirror now claim the Swans have made another enquiry - swiftly rejected by the Canaries - in their on-going search for reinforcements in the closing days of the window with Nathan Dyer still sidelined since damaging his ankle ligaments in the 1-1 Premier League draw at Norwich back in December.

Swansea were also linked with a £3m move for Anthony Pilkington ahead of the weekend, although City have recieved no bids from the Welsh club for the Republic of Ireland international. Michael Laudrup also refused to be drawn on that speculation when pressed following the Swans’ FA Cup fourth round win at Birmingham on Saturday afternoon.

The Canaries have consistently made it clear during the current window they are not interested in selling any of their senior players against the club’s wishes, following speculation surrounding the likes of both Wes Hoolahan and Robert Snodgrass in addition to both Redmond and Pilkington over recent days.

The transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday and the Canaries continue to be touted with moves to bolster their central defence. Dani Ayala has now joined Middlesbrough on a permanent transfer and with Michael Turner sidelined through a hamstring injury the club have only Ryan Bennett and Seb Bassong as fit and available senior centre backs.

City were heavily linked with Lazio’s Michael Ciani last week and fresh reports suggest they are also tracking Newcastle’s Steven Taylor and Birmingham’s Scott Dann. Hughton worked with Taylor in the north-east and the City boss has already recruited his Magpies’ team-mate Jonas Gutierrez on a loan deal. Taylor has found himself similarly slipping down the pecking order at St James’ Park this season with Norwich reportedly ready to consider a £5.5m move for the former England Under-21 captain. Dann is currently at Championship strugglers Blackburn but has Premier League experience with Birmingham and according to Talksport is interesting both Norwich and Crystal Palace.

  • Quote.......BBC sport " Cardiff to make triple signing", I'm a worried man. At the mo. all I see from a NC point of view is a triple exodus. I'm sure there are irons in the fire and as everyone points out, NC do their business behind closed doors BUT!!!! there are only 5 days left to get our 'gunners' into gear. But of course everything is under control, no probs. I'll be sleeping well tonight then.

  • My bet of nobody permanent is looking quite good at the minute. Hope im wrong though, Really do! Silly thing is its such a divided subject at the minute when it comes to where we need to improve. For every person who says Centre back, I hear just as many others saying a Target man, then just as many others saying play maker central midfielder. I honestly dont know where I feel we need to improve as a priority but what I do know is what ever we all feel we need, will be the totally opposite to what Hughton actually goes out and gets. But hes the boss, who am I to judge. Ill be happy with any quality brought in who is going to improve the squad but like they always say, January is tricky for that. Was listening to talksport this morning and they had a football agent on the show who said a few key points that are important to remember regarding January deals. Most deals (well at least the ones hes involved in) fall through because all the clubs in the bottom half want to include massive 50% wage cuts should they be relegated, which in my eyes is fair and smart as it protects the clubs, but in the agents eyes they are unfair on the player because the player coming in hasnt gotten the club in that position in the first place. Next thing he mentioned was to bag a player whose going to improve you in the jan window your only option is to find a player who either has fallen out with the manager or has an issue like contract running out as anyone else would already be playing if they were any good. The agent didnt go into details (surprise surprise) on who these deals were but he said hes been working on two deals with Palace but they both fell through because the players in question wanted upwards of £40,000 a week which was still less than they were on sitting on the bench elsewhere and didnt agree with the 50% wage cut clauses. With NCFC with have the added problem of the area were located. Not everyone but alot still assume were on dial up internet and cant get Chanel 5. Seriously though were out the way and should we come into direction competition for a player we normally lose out due to location & wages to offer the player. I doubt we will see anyone inwards but not ruling out outwards movement this window despite the club saying they want it the other way round. Wait and see. Really hope Im proved wrong!

  • More off topic, but after the cup draw at the weekend. If we had turned up at Fulham and won, probably beaten Sheff Utd, would now have home game against lower league opponents again with good chance of getting to 6th round, semi finals etc and more money in kitty for new players. I so wish we still bothered with the cups. Maybe not pay the fee to enter and stop wasting supporters money going to games we dont want to win.

On the PilksRedmond talk I cannot see Redmond going anywhere unless A# Someone offers silly money for him (which Swansea wont) or B# We get relegated (which have not......yet). Pilks however is a totally different story and I wouldnt be surprised if we saw him leave this window. Better than losing him for nothing. I like Pilks, I like him a lot, but would we miss him if he was sold now rather than leaving for nothing at the end of the season. Especially as he spends most his time injured and like most suspect he is one of the few who are not entirely happy under Hughtons leadership. Wait & See but wouldn't surprise me if a decent offer was tabled we'd see Pilks move on.

Its just extra cover up front as they've been desperately short on strikers while Michu has been injured and ideally they want to play him in the hole instead anyway.

And we know we ain't got good enough depth in the squad to let players leave without bringing new players in. What we should be more bothered by (especially members of city staff and board ) is that so many teams around us in the same boat as us have managed to strengthen there squads this window. !! As all 3 are from one source I've notified the club and asked if they could do something about the Mirror to prevent them from making up more of these stories.

  • gordon52 I've already done that and here is what I found: The Pilks going to Swansea was from Alan Nixon (Daily Mirror) on 12th Jan, Snody going to Celtic was Peter Layton (Daily Mirror) on 19th Jan & Redmond going to Swansea was from Dave Kidd (Daily Mirror) 25th Jan. I think it's clear to see the link is The Daily Mirror, but as we don't have a proper press watch dog little will be done to stop these stories being made up and trawled out and then copied by other lazy journo's. It becomes a game of Chinese wispers which adds to the whole thing and then the fans think it's all doom and gloom. You only have to look at some of the comments written here to see what happens.

  • Oh what a merry dance is this January transfer window! It serves no purpose, except to encourage clubs to panic buy and destablise teams whose players are alleged targets. Our failure was not so much who we bought in the summer as how Hughton has utilised them. We have three proven goalscorers, two of whom have had few shots on target let alone goals. These players don't become bad ones overnight. You have to look at the system Hughton employs and the lack of creativity and drive in midfield and of course the balmy "tactic" of playing wingers on their wrong foot.
