Norwich City is one of a number of clubs reportedly tracking Manchester United’s talented wide player Wilfried Zaha for a potential January window loan move.

Sky Sports claimed on Monday afternoon City along with top flight rivals Cardiff, Stoke and Swansea and two other clubs from outside the Premier League have all expressed an ‘interest’ in the 21-year-old who moved to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace in the summer for a reported £15m fee.

Zaha’s only senior start for the Reds under David Moyes came against Norwich in United’s 4-0 Capital One Cup win over the Canaries back in October. The England Under-21 international’s last club appearance came as a substitute in the 3-0 Premier League win at Aston Villa last month - one of only four appearances for United this season.

Chris Hughton attempted to bring in reinforcements in wide midfield areas during the summer transfer window after Elliott Bennett suffered a knee ligament injury in the opening day Premier League draw against Everton. City were strongly linked with both Australian international James Troisi and West Ham’s Ricardo Vaz Te but Hughton opted not to make a late foray into the market.

Injuries to Anthony Pilkington and Robert Snodgrass over recent months have forced him to rely on Nathan Redmond and elevate Josh Murphy into his first team squad. Zaha is the latest name linked with a potential Carrow Road switch after Newcastle’s Jonas Gutierrez was also touted with a switch to Norfolk over the past weekend.

  • Solskjaer favourite to land in-demand Zaha ! Well I couldn't see Wilfried coming to Norwich in a hurry, so I don't know what point this un-named rumour serves.

  • Apparently the media have Cardiff as front runner to land Zaha. But me thinks, why wouldn't he want to back to Palace. He knows the set up and it's London. If we land him I'll eat my green and yellow bobble hat !

  • I think the thing is there are bound to be plenty of other teams interested in Zaha and as much as we all love Norwich and know its a lovely place with amazing fans. Players, especially of his age dont see it that way. If one of the London, birmingham clubs are sniffing around hes never going to even consider us. Thats how we usually get diddled in deals. Leroy Fer basically admitted that had Everton sold Fellani sooner he'd have been going there instead of here. Seems as soon as other clubs get interested in our targets were out of the running. Heres hoping we can get a Zaha, Rodwell type.....Someone with bags of potential just not able to get anywhere near a regular spot at one of the big boys. Theres plenty of players out there out of favour. Loads mentioned already, Jonas, Rodwell, Zaha, Heitinga etc....just gotta get the right one whether it be signing permanent or on loan if its one of the younger ones.

  • I doubt we're looking at him unless Hughtons looking to drop Elmander. Zaha isn't going to play ahead of RvW or Hooper and even if he did that would probably not go down well with the fans after the amount spent on those two. Why Moyes wants to get him out is a mystery though, with Rooney and VP out they need firepower. Hernandez and Wellbeck were absolutely dreadful yesterday and I was amazed Zaha didn't come on to try to liven it up. I reckon a tabloid has got hold of news that Zaha is available and just 'linked' him with any clubs struggling to score.

  • as good as? We are in a relegation battle. Anyone thinking otherwise needs to really have a look at the table. Its close but we show no signs of getting anything more than the odd win here and there at the moment so we certainly won't be shooting up the table rapidly despite it being close. Not under the current management anyway.

  • They might half as well say they are showing an interest in Messi for all the good it will do . Get real Hughton - thanks to you we now have a poor reputation at Norwich and well be lucky to attract any player here of premiership standard.

  • I'm sorry Goss . I don't wish to upset anybody - it's just frustration at the mess our club is sinking into and nobody seems to be taking any steps to rectify it - the management team, the CEO or the board seem to be oblivious to it all. We are heading for relegation unless something happens soon. Once again I apologise but time will tell.

  • Victor your constant use of every thread to put the boot in is getting a bit tedious mate. I understand your frustrations this season but still to say we couldn't attract anyone decent is a bit off the mark. Our board is decent in the transfer market and at the end of the day money talks.

  • Zaha is an obvious talent. Why is Moyes letting him go from a very mediocre Man., Utd., team.?Has Zaha failed to progress as expected? As others have said, players such as this tend to like the bright lights. Norwich is wonderful place to live but not I feel for the Zahas of this world. If he did come here , he could only improve the sluggish lacklustre team that CH has built.

  • Just heard the news on Walcott. Bad news for the lad but opens the England door for any exciting, goal scoring wide players that can make a splash between now and May. Player like Zaha will be looking for opportunities to play most of the rest of the season. Maybe a slim chance for Redmond too? Apparently Hodgson rates him.

  • When trying to bring anyone in, the situation now is different from August. At that time things appeared to be looking up and on the face of it we seemed poised to be on the up. But come January under Hughton we look to be going nowhere except down and are as good as in a relegation battle. So it is going to be far more difficult to entice decent players when they are well aware of our position.
