Norwich City have been linked with Sochaux striker Cedric Bakambu.

The Canaries and Premier League rivals Newcastle are reportedly keeping tabs on the 22-year-old who has played for France at youth level with SportsDirect News claiming Newcastle lead the chase given their strong scouting connections in France with a host of players making the switch across the channel to the north-east in recent seasons.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton is reportedly monitoring the situation. The City chief brought in both Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel over the summer but both have endured injury-hit debut campaigns whilst on-loan striker Johan Elmander is yet to score since his return to England.

Respected French newspaper L’Equipe reported last week struggling Sochaux will look to cash in during this transfer window with the striker available for £2.5m. Bakambu has scored 17 goals in 71 appearances for Sochaux who are languishing in the lower reaches of Ligue One.

  • Well now we know whats what.. Lambert is teaming up with Holt again and wants Hoolahan to be his feed man.. what is the betting that Hoolahan wont be in the Villa team in a matter of days. I feel fairly sure Villa will survive... City not so much sure... But what do I know sitting in Northern Ontario looking at a frozen Lake superior...

  • One of my main gripes with Chris Hughton is he's played this style of football with Newcastle & Birmingham. At both of those he had, or purchased a big target man who is capable of playing up top on his own and not moaned at or expected to score 20 goals a season. Yet at NCFC he hasnt got, or attempted to get that type of striker. Its not easy on the eye but with the correct styled players he gets results to a degree. Thats why I keep questioning whether Hughton is totally in control of the big money signings. Just seems bonkers that he knows his style of football yet he decided to sign two strikers (who would be exceptional in any other side in the league) who dont fit his style.

  • What's the point? Hughton will only put him on the bench or in goal no matter how tall he is or what he weighs in at.

  • One thing is for sure, we do not need another goal scorer so much as we need a target man so I guess the big question is how tall and how physical is he and could he play in partnership with Hooper or RVW.

  • 17 goals in 70 appearances !!!!!!????? Am I missing something here. Is this really what we need and city? NO it is not.... We need a creator in the engine room a good all round midfielder , someone who can create goal scoring opportunities. . What's the point in another striker if the service ain't there. Norwich board please put your heads together and all your funds and buy a capable creative midfielder , e end if it costs us 10 mill. It'll be more appreciated than another dud striker. 17 in 70.!! NO GOOD..OTBC
