Norwich City have reportedly been given permission to open talks with Coventry City’s young hot shot Callum Wilson over a proposed transfer.

The Coventry Evening Telegraph claim City and Championship rivals Bournemouth have both made bids for the 22-year-old, who had an impressive first full season for the Sky Blues in League One where he scored 22 goals.

City chief Neil Adams has already brought in Lewis Grabban and Kyle Lafferty this summer but the Norwich boss has made it clear bolstering his frontline remains a key priority for the Championship season ahead.

The CET report on Thursday afternoon Wilson and his representative are understood to be in discussions with the two clubs after Coventry received bids in the region of £3m from both Norwich and the Cherries.

Bournemouth have already had two previous offers rejected for Wilson, who has also been touted in the past with a move to Wolves. The Cherries banked £3m for Grabban and are also in line for an estimated £6m as part of the deal that took Adam Lallana to Liverpool from Southampton.

  • We still need someone to push Ruddy for his position. Last season he knew he was guaranteed a spot in the first team barring injury. We still need a couple of decent young defenders. I don't have confidence in Martin or Turner when they've up against a striker with speed. In Martins case he was knocked of the ball too many times by physical forward. Bennett hasn't shown the potential we thought he had and lacks consistency.

  • For me we still need a couple of quality centre midfielders. I'm not sure Tettey is committed enough after his recent comments. Fer has too much quality for this league and will be off after the World Cup. I'm not convinced Hoolahan is committed either and Howson isn't consistent enough. Our main problem last season was the midfield. They failed to create enough chances and didn't protect the back four. For me we really didn't have a leader as captain. An older more experienced player everyone respects who's shouting directions. Someone like a Lampard to control midfield and dictate play. Instead we had too many individuals and ego's shouting at one another.

  • With zero debt and PL parachute payments. It looks like we're rebuilding for the future with hungry youngsters (lower wage bill). I just hope with NA's limited 1st team experience it isn't a massive gamble. Like others I imagine Becchio, RVW and Hooper will be shown the door in one form or another. I believe there is some truth in Hoopers transfer request. Becchio will probably be used in a swap deal or loan of some sort. Fer will be off once the World Cup is finished. I would imagine to Southampton. Highly likely there's deals on the table for Fer, Hooper, and RVW subject to us finding replacements.

  • The one thing worse than playing in front of empty stands Brew, is not playing at all. He'd be the first name on the team sheet at Bournemouth. Not so with us. If this comes off, we've seen the last of Benchio and RvW for sure.

  • ......Surely we have an excellent collection of defenders....Martin&Whittaker...Bennett &Turner...Olssen&Garido..oh and I nearly forgot Bassong!....Midfield consists of Johnson ..Howson..Tettey..Fer..Hoolahan....We have enough quality there to walk this league!...Our management staff has ability and a positive outlook....We can't fail!.....

  • Christ...another forward...someone should point out to NA that we failed to score goals last season because we had limited supply to the talented forwards we already have. Hooper, RVW and Becchio are all proven goal scorers, its not coincidence that none of them managed to score many last season.

  • …...It seems that Grant Holt is no longer wanted by Wigan, and they may be glad to get him off their wage bill....Any side wanting him could find him available Free of Charge!....Just a Thought!...He may not be match fit but he may have something to offer the younger players!....No Hughton -Calderwood – to cramp his style.....

  • Wow, another striker.........how many are we going to end up with ? Should all our strikes score one each against 1p5wich home and away, that will be well into double figures (and some). It will certainly eclipse the 9 we scored last time around !

  • Trying to work out what NA tactics is starting to get very interesting. It seems to me to be a traditional target man with two strikers playing off him. Whether it is alongside or just dropping back into midfield we will have to wait to see. No doubt it will depend on where and who we are playing and how many we want to see in midfield. NA might also be planning to use a squad approach, something that CH never did. Can't see Grabban and Wilson prepared to play second fiddle to RVW and GH or vice versa which indicates that the some may be on the way out one way or another. Perhaps the idea is to loan them out so that they can prove their worth and therefore increase their value? Now we need that creative mid fielder and a new centre back to start the season with? Too many more and there will be some difficulty getting them all to play together although perhaps no worse than last season. By my (poor) maths, if we get Wilson we are now up to our maximum squad size for the championship!

  • Are Norwich planning to start season with ten strikers and a goalie and hope they score more than concede orkeep trying different ones out till they find one who can score, perhaps if its option one they should sign the Italian goalie then he could come out and give a hand when needed

  • we must be looking at other positions, I guess its due to our lack of goals that journo's are only writing about strikers. I was hoping we might hear M Bunn is moving on if he wants to be no.1 he needs to go as I currently have him as City's 3rd choice and if Ruddy does go he is still only a back up.

  • There is the question whether this interest means a departure from hooper and or RVW but I feel sorry for loza who has just signed a new deal. This purchase, if it goes through, makes his task of getting into the first team a lot harder. Competition isn't a bad thing though.

  • Looks like RvW and Hoops are not going to get the chance to make amends or to show what they can do in a team set up by a tactically astute manager with the guts to attack occasionally. At least not with Norwich they're not. That is a real pity as they are classy players who based on last season's results will be sold for a song.

  • It is frustrating, LYB. Which is why, occasionally, respectable contributors get a bit cross and... cross the line. I`ve learned that you may not refer to somebody as "D!ck". Or mention Ar$enal. Poppyc0ck is out. But you may refer to Neil Warnock as Colin. I suppose it is a useful and easy filter for obvious profanities. Trivial when compared with low-level identity theft. SO sinister.I know that, once you have a user-name linked to an email address, that link is fixed. I wanted - openly - to change my posting name about 15 months ago, to celebrate another Dutch recruit (Oh dear). I only logged in to see if it worked! Not allowed. Verboten. Though there are folk with multiple email addresses. SO very many. Apparently, it`s SO easy. Seems I have been "hacked". To Archant`s credit, they have responded. Sadly, the culprit is still around. Insider, maybe? Let`s hope not. After all, it`s only a game.

  • An interesting development... perhaps just hedging our bets going in for as many young talented players as possible? He did a great job in his first season and I certainly wouldn't turn him away it will be interesting how our front line develops in the coming days and weeks.

  • You've got to say that the programming on the Pink'un website really is shoddy. Put in conditions that usernames have to be unique for goodness sake. Then the regex on profanities: Put space characters at the start and finish as a condition for a match. Honestly, what sort of football site censors a r s e n a l when you spell it out normallly?
