Norwich City and any other potential Championship suitors can forget a summer transfer move for Leeds United striker Ross McCormack, warns Whites’ owner Massimo Cellino.

The Italian will not sanction a move for the Scottish international to a potential rival, who was the subject of a reported £5m bid from Fulham last week and has also been linked with the Canaries.

McCormack is contracted to Elland Road until 2017 and Cellino is prepared to keep last season’s Championship top scorer out of the clutches of any other second tier club.

“He’s a talented player so I couldn’t tell him no, stay at Leeds,” Cellino said. “If he gets an offer from a big team then we should give him the chance to go. But the teams who’ve asked for McCormack are from the Championship. Why should I sell McCormack? We are not desperate to sell him so why should we? If I needed money, I would tell you frankly - I need money, I have to sell, I’m not ashamed. McCormack is a matter of principle, not money. He’s a beautiful player and he’s staying at Leeds.

“I’ll make him keep his word with the fans. He’s signed a contract and he wants to stay, he said that publicly. He says he loves Leeds. McCormack is a Leo, like my star sign - a leader and a winner who knows the responsibilities. We expect from him the same work next season but not same manner of goals. He played for Leeds with his heart last year, that’s what we want from him. We don’t want him to carry the weight of his team on his shoulders. He played for three players last season.”

  • 'fraid Yobo only came here for a pre World Cup fitness boost and will not be back...

  • I would be happy for Yobo to stay another year. Todays papers however are about a Hull offer of £5m for Snodgrass and unspecified clubs interested in Ruddy. Speculation is that the money raised will be used to meet Blackburn's asking price for striker Rhodes and take Butland from Stoke on loan.

  • Just watched Nigeria beat BIH. Thought Yobo played well, but thought he was good in the few games he played last season for NCFC - our defense was tighter and more disciplined when he played. Any chance of him becoming permanent; have not heard whether that is an option? I also was impressed by Emenike - think he's in Turkey at Fenerbahce (sp?), but he would be great in the Championship, but maybe out of our price range.

  • I think if the moon is in it's 7th zenith and with Virgo rising, then I'm hoping that Adams (as a Libra) will bring a balance back to the squad and we will once again find success ... ;)

  • Agree chaps! I Likely forgot others as well but was typing on the fly and people like Bennett & Surman who we've not seen in a while slipped my mind. Fingers crossed we managed to get the right people in. OTBC

  • Although I think we will have a pretty decent C'ship squad, at least 3 new players would freshen things up and (hopefully) arrive without the stench of relegation around them. Really looking forward to it but not with huge expectations. I think it might be a slow burner this season. Patience will be required.

  • Mattias: Surman also - I have a feeling he may be a very important player for us next season, especially if we lose Fer andor Tettey. DC and another striker would be good - shame we gave away one of each of those last season for nothing, hey? I do believe NA wants to move us in the right direction, and will do everything he can to get the right players in.

  • Apologise Ghana Dom, Bennett was missed off. Totally forgot him (and likely others too while I was quickly typing away). He's one player im 110% sure will be here. Looking forward to see more of Bennett this season!

  • Matt3, are you suggesting that Elliot Bennett and the likes will move on too, or did you just miss him off?

  • I have to agree with Cellino that McCormack will not be sold to another Championship club. Neither would he want to leave Leeds to join another Championship club. With respect to Mattias333, I think from the current squad Garrido, Bassong, Fer, Tettey, Pilkington, Hoolahan, RvW, and Becchio will all be gone by the end of the transfer window; be it on loan or permanent deals. That really leaves us looking for a left back, couple of centre backs, a central midfielder, a winger and another striker. And I'm not too fussed if we dip into our youth pot for some of those!

  • Heres a list of current squad members I think will be here still come August. GK: Ruddy, Bunn, Rudd. DL: Olsson, Garrido (if he stays). DR: Martin, Whittaker.DC: Turner, Bennett. MC:Fer, Howson, Tettey, Johnson. Wingers: Redmond, Snodgrass, Murphy (Josh). AMC: Hoolahan. ST: Hooper, Grabban. I have not included RVW, Becchio, Pilks, Bassong etc as I really cant see them being here. Isnt a reflection of whether I want them here, I just dont think the current management team will want them. Looking at the players i've listed it shows a few areas that IMO could do with improving\replacing. Central defence is first on my list. Not a knock on Turner & Bennett as in my humble opinion they are a very good championship pairing. However lack of any competition\replacement for injuries is an issue. Should Garrido leave we may need an up and coming youthful player to back up Olsson or potentially replace him should someone offer silly money. Central midfield is one very strong area for us at championship level should Fer, Tettey & co all stay. Could do with another winger to offer competition. Maybe a natural left winger who offers something different to the obvious cutting in issue we've highlighted with Snod & Redmond. Strikers wise as long as Hooper stays I feel we've got the poacher area covered with Grabban and Hoops but another striker would certainly be required. Not convinced on Loza yet? Maybe a FULL season loan at a league 1 club will tell us where we are at with him as 1 goal out on loan while at a handful of clubs isnt enough for me to jump on the bandwagon for him starting quite yet. While last season under Hughton it was clear we required a big, traditional target man, it may not be the case this season. It all depends on how Adams plans on playing. If its Similar to Hughton where we will be hoofing the ball up to the half way line, then certainly we need a target man as Hooper and RVW both proved they cant do that role (they are poaches in the box styled strikers after all!). Should Adams allow our naturally gifted attacking players a bit more freedom and encourage a flowing passing game, then we wont require a 6ft3+ target man, rather more just someone who is a bit more robust and use to the hard graft of the championship who can complement the natural goal scorers.(think a Grant Holt in his prime type). 3-4 players in my opinion + keep a majority of the current squad and we wont go far wrong. It is a very good championship calibre side at the end of the day. Just needs the right man management and additions to it. OTBC

  • Would like to see some quality defenders and mid fielders come in when you see how many goals were scored against City in the past 2 seasons.
