Local teams and riders were in action as a super-fast Thruxton circuit hosted round six of the British Superbike Championships.

Peter Hickman, on the RAF Reserves Honda, is really getting to grips with the bike and was eighth on the grid.

In race one he was right in the mix, coming home in 11th place, and in race two he was up to sixth when the race was red-flagged after Tommy Bridewell’s motor blew and laid oil. In the restart Hickman was soon into fifth, but running with the same tyres he went off towards the end and he slipped to 10th.

In the Superstock 600, Gorleston’s birthday boy, Charlie King celebrated turning 18 on Saturday with a very commendable 17th on the Team Haribo Starmix 675cc Triumph, despite running wide coming on to the start and finish straight and losing a few places. It was hard to believe only two weeks earlier he fell at Brands Hatch and fractured his left shoulder.

Poringland’s Jack Keen came home in 27th, which will not please him – he was a consistent top finisher in last year’s Ducati TriOptions 848 Challenge.

Freddy Pett, from King’s Lynn, may not have made the top step of the podium in the Triumph Triple Challenge but a third and a fourth were good enough for him to retain his championship lead.

Long Stratton’s Ben Bygraves and crewman Justin Sharpe had a great weekend in a triple header for the Eastern Airways British Sidecar Championship, finishing eighth in the first two races and then missing out on a podium in fourth.

Not the best weekend for the Norwich-based Morello team with John Ingram having to settle for two 20th places in the Superbike races and Jesse Trayler having to make do with 27th in the Superstock 1000.
