Poll: Was the four-goal “masterclass” by Liverpool striker Luis Suarez the best ever performance against a Norwich City side?

Superlatives continue to be thrown in the direction of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez following his annihilation of Norwich City last night - but was his performance the best ever against the Canaries?

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The Uruguayan striker set a new record of being the only player to score three hat-tricks against one club in the Premier League and took his total against Norwich to 11 goals in five games.

His majestic hat-trick took his total for the season to 13 goals in 10 matches and led to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers saying: “Everything about him is just world class. If you look at the world-class performers at the top of the game their numbers are just exceptional and that is the level he is at.”

Of course Canaries supporters knew what to expect from Suarez, who is one of the 23 players on the shortlist for FIFA’s Ballon d’Or world player of the year award.

But was it the best solo performance ever against a Norwich City side?

Or can you remember another performance to rival the one-man Suarez show during City’s 5-1 defeat at Anfield?

Norwich boss Chris Hughton hailed Suarez as “a world class player” after the game and Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen described the striker’s performance as “a masterclass”.

Cast your vote in the poll above and offer any suggestions for a better performance by leaving a comment below.

  • Jaszli.....thats all a bit strong old boy. Our team is made up of some very good players, both those that have been with us throughout the past four years since our rise from League 1 and also those whom have been recently brought in. Please don't pick on the abilities of the players - they are ALL very much good enough. If anything they lack that all too essential leadership on the pitch; someone to rally them, motivate, and ensure plans are implimented.

  • What is the point of this article? Suarez is a fine player but against City he had the freedom of the field. The first goal Ruddy was off his line as he was last season. Should have done better. All the other goals were the result of allowing him far too much time and room on the ball. Hull managed to nullify him and beat Liverpool 3-1. What was the secret. A game plan and shut him down quickly. City has no defence and players of poor quality but there is no excuse for not working hard.

  • Norwich City are in the premiership and no matter how much praise Chris Hughton heaps on our opposition and on the world class players that many teams have in this league his job is to get the best from our team and our players so we are able to compete at this level. but instead he has knocked the spirit out of the players with his awful tactical approach. His post match interviews are an embarrassment as are some of his tactical decisions. He seems to have lost the command of the dressing room and many of the fans have lost all belief in him.

  • Canaries=Buying reject players, poor tactical by a championship level manager, no fighting spirit, can't score, can't defend, no idea on how to attack, no teamwork, no creativity, manager sucks, let the opponent danger man run freely, written in Suarez notebook as his favourite club to score against with ease, even with his eyes close. That sum it all I think.

  • Any striker will look good if he's left unmarked and the defenders don't get tight. Suarez does some clever things with a football but don 't forget he was banned for the end of last season and the beginning of this for biting an opponent. Even if he scored a hatrick of hatricks in one game, he wouldn't feature in my dream team. The complete footballer demonstrates both skill AND sportsmanship, and Suarez is very far from the complete article.

  • I cant brlieve the poll, Was the four-goal solo show from Luis Suarez the best ever against a Norwich City side? no it was not it was the lack of professionalism and a not got a clue defence that made him look good. A pensioner would have rung rings around them. (no disrespect to pensioners) then it does not help with a clueless manager to boot! And a totaly gutless board dont help matters. I cant wait for Christmas day I most probably will pull a craker with more spark in it.

  • This ridiculous poll makes Suarez as being unstoppable. Ruddy was off his line when Suarez took a long shot , the same as last season. All the other goals were due to lack of tight marking and poor defending. How did Hull manage to beat Liverpool 3-1 and keep Suarez quiet? By having a game plan and players with enough skill and interest in doing so. N City were responsible for all Suarez goals by their ineptness.

  • I have stuck up for CH pretty consistently on this page. I felt he needed time and also that he was always at a disadvantage because he was constantly compared to Paul Lambert. Lambert was great but he was great at getting us out of League 1 and the Championship. We actually finished higher up the league with CH last season than we did with Lambert. Anyway - he's history so let's forget him. When people were moaning on here about our lack of goals, CH said his first priority was to shore up the defence. I accepted that. To build from the back seems logical. Then when he invested in strikers in the summer I thought we stood a real chance of going somewhere although, of course, all the teams around us had also invested so maybe the playing field still remained level. However, we are leaking goals. What has happened to the back four and our defensive mid fielders? If John Ruddy had any hair he would be tearing it out. For the first time I am thinking that, nice though he is, CH is not the right fit for Norwich City. But - who the heck would we get in his place?
