Great Yarmouth Town have appointed former Norwich United and Gorleston striker Ricci Butler as their new first-team manager.
The Thurlow Nunn First Division club held its annual general meeting (AGM) last night, where several changes to the club’s structure were confirmed following a tumultuous season.
Butler, who was most recently playing for Kirkley & Pakefield in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, was confirmed as new first-team manager at the AGM.
The 27-year-old was chosen from a range of candidates who applied and were interviewed for the roles. He hopes to announce an assistant soon and will be advised by his father, former Gorleston striker Carl Butler.
Local businessman and committed supporter of the club Steve Brieley was confirmed as chairman, allowing Len Beresford to revert to honorary secretary after a spell as interim chairman.
Kevin Forbes was confirmed as vice-chairman, Tony Nash will serve as vice-secretary and the vastly experienced Brian Smith, who has previously served the club as secretary, is the new treasurer.
Club president Arthur Fisk, said the Bloaters’ new hierarchy will reveal more of their future plans in the coming weeks, but said: “It was a good, well attended meeting. We welcomed Ricci Butler to the Wellesley, who is now our manager, which we are all pleased with.
“He’s only 27 years old but we thought we would have a clean sweep. He came across excellently for a young lad, with some good ideas.”
Lee Hackleton had taken charge of Yarmouth on a caretaker basis following the sacking of manager Mike Derbyshire in early February after a fallout behind the scenes.
Hackleton stepped up from his role as manager of the club’s reserves and guided the Bloaters to eighth place in the final Thurlow Nunn First Division standings.
Hackleton was this week confirmed as the new boss at Anglian Combination Premier Division side Cromer Town.
