All eyes will be fixed skywards in Sudbury tomorrow as the East Anglian Premier League title decider bids to beat the weather.

With showers forecast during the afternoon, a fitting climax to the title race between the hosts and reigning champions Swardeston could well be thwarted.

Sudbury lead by 21 points so are already in a strong position to claim their first EAPL title, with only a comprehensive victory and dominance with bat and ball being enough for Swardeston.

All involved will now be hoping that it is not rain that decides this year's champions in an anti-climax – and denies the Norfolk side their sixth title on the spin.

Sudbury joined the EAPL last year and finished seventh with 280 points but have won 16 of their 21 matches to lead for much of the campaign.

The Suffolk side have kicked on with captain Tom Huggins, a former Suffolk skipper who coaches at Essex CCC, leading from the front with 833 runs from 21 games and an average of 52.06, as well as being among the league's best bowlers with 39 wickets and a strike rate of 33.44.

Swardeston's vice-captain Joe Gatting is the league's top wicket-taker, with 45 from 226 overs, but Sudbury's Dustin Melton has just two less from 190 overs – making for a superb strike rate of a wicket every 26.56 runs.

Elsewhere, there is only pride to play for on the final day of the season.

Horsford are 21 points adrift at the bottom but are not expected to face relegation as none of the regional champions are expected to pursue promotion.

Ryan Findlay's side make the short journey to Great Witchingham, who have already finished in third place, looking to pick up just their second away win of the campaign and climb off the bottom – with Bury hosting fourth-placed Cambridge Granta.

The campaign also finishes away from home for Norwich, at Copdock & Old Ipswichian, and Vauxhall Mallards, at Frinton, who are both comfortable in mid-table.
