Dereham Town bounced back from a 4-0 defeat at Ware last weekend by beating mid-table Romford 4-2 in an action-packed game at Aldiss Park.

The Magpies started slowly and fell behind when Reece Tranter finished off a long ball over the top of the hosts’ defence.

Matt Henman’s side then burst into life and within six minutes of conceding Craig Bussens pulled the hosts level and, with a minute to play until the break, Bussens bagged his second and put the Magpies ahead after a string of chances.

However in first half stoppage time ill-discipline from Dan Morphew saw Dereham reduced to 10 men and the visitors converted the resulting penalty to pull level.

However three minutes after the break, Dereham were awarded a penalty and Ryan Hawkins stepped up to put Dereham ahead.

Then a minute after the hour mark, a thrilling run from Hawkins allowed Bussens to seal his hat-trick and the 4-2 win, with Romford also reduced to 10 men before full-time.

Today Dereham travel to 17th-placed Waltham Abbey and Henman is looking for his side to win again.

“There isn’t a great turnaround before Waltham but we have plenty of options in our squad and we know we can put a side together capable of winning,” the Dereham boss said.

“It’s our last away game of the season and we are wanting to go out on a high and put in a good account of ourselves ahead of next season.”
