Ipswich Town skipper Luke Chambers says the new-look Blues squad should fear no-one in the Championship – and that includes Norwich this Sunday.

While the popular captain knows recent history isn’t on the side of Ipswich, with a much-improved squad this season and a better style of football, Chambers is confident Town can arrest a lack of derby day wins that stretches back to 2009.

“Form goes out of the window on derby day and we are looking forward to getting a win against these,” he said.

Chambers: I think there’s three stars on our shirts

“It’s a great opportunity for us, especially at home and we have a few boys starting to come back from injury.

“We have no reason going into any game in this division fearing any team.

“We have a lot of experience, especially players we have brought into the club this summer.

“Teams in this division should be fearing us.

“I think we have been affected by injuries in recent weeks and that has slowed us down a bit but we still have a lot of very good players to come back into the team.

- Burley: Town’s best chance in years

“One of our major signings of the summer, Emyr Huws, we have yet to see – hopefully he’s not too far away. We haven’t seen the best of Tom Adeyemi yet and we missed Joe Garner last week.”

Chambers, like many of the current Town squad, does not have especially fond memories of Ipswich/Norwich encounters in recent years, including a play-off defeat to the Canaries in 2015.

- Gunn ready to follow in dad’s footsteps

“At the moment my memories of derby games with Norwich aren’t the best,” Chambers said.

“But we want to make new memories, that’s what they are there to do.

“We definitely look stronger this season, and we have a strong squad when everyone is fit.

“I can assure everyone no stone will be left unturned this week to get the win on Sunday.”

- Which player would rival fans want most from each side?

Chambers always leads the ‘huddle’ for his team seconds before kick-off. But will he say anything different on Sunday?

“I’m sure it will be a bit different,” Chambers said.

“I’ll take a second to tell the players to soak up this atmosphere, put a marker down and get the three points.”

  • its a laugh Ipswich wanting all three points on Sunday, they are now on their way down the league whereas Norwich are rising fast. I can see Norwich not only wining but greatly improving their goal difference.
