Olympic silver medallist Emma Pooley has announced Sunday’s cycling road race at the Commonwealth Games will be her last.

The Norwich inspiration, 31, will retire after the weekend’s event bringing an end to an illustrious career which has seen her enjoy a host of successes – including becoming this year’s British time-trial champion.

British Cycling president Bob Howden said: “Emma has been a tremendous ambassador for cycling both on and off the bike and for women’s sport in general, never far from the action wherever she applied her undoubted talents.”

Pooley’s last outing will see her ride as part of the Team England outfit that will be hoping to propel Lizzie Armitstead to gold in Scotland.
