Neil Adams is adamant Norwich City will not going to be swept up in the transfer madness this summer.

The Canaries’ boss dismissed recent speculation City had tabled a £10m bid for Leeds hitman Ross McCormack prior to the Scot’s big money move to Championship rivals Fulham.

City have also been touted with Blackburn’s prolific striker Jordan Rhodes, with Blackburn reportedly slapping a similar price tag on the prized frontman, but Adams insists City will only make realistic forays into the market.

“The danger is the whole thing gets inflated and clubs have got to be sensible,” he said. “If you go into the market and pay over the odds then you are asking for a bit of trouble in my view. Of course as a selling club you want to get the best price and buy at the best price because it is about good business and you are trying to balance the books.

“The big money is always in the Premier League and we are not in the Premier League now, we are in the Championship and we have got to arrange our business if you like accordingly. It would be lovely to be in that position again as a Premier League club next season.”

Norwich have attracted Lewis Grabban and Kyle Lafferty to Carrow Road. Robert Snodgrass went in the opposite direction but Adams and the Canaries’ top brass are well aware they have a clutch of senior players who are also entering the final year of their current Norwich deals.

The likes of Ryan Bennett and Andrew Surman plus Republic of Ireland duo Anthony Pilkington and Wes Hoolahan are all coming to the end of their existing contracts.

“Certainly there are players getting into the last year of their contracts who we want to keep,” said Adams. “I need to speak to the chief executive about that and you need to tie them up if we can.

“Pre-season will give me a clearer idea of who I want to keep and who I don’t want to keep and those players may want to come and speak to me in due course. But those running into the last year of their contracts would be a priority. I think that is fair to say.”

  • I remember Dave Bickers back in the days when they used to have scrambling on World of Sport as well as speedway. Also I used to like the Roller Derby that came from the US. Good to see KL Stars topping the league this season. Someone said that Ryan Bennett was a regular. For those who remember him ,Malcolm Simmons died recently after cancer treatment.

  • totally agree with you El tel - all this crap about not taking part in transfer madness is just the usual softening up of the fans so accept cheap new players. Although I wanted Hughton out because his tactics were rubbish I will give him credit for going after ambitious signings - Alderweireld, Quagilarella, Toivonen, even Biglia was rumoured at one point, ultimately we couldn't land them but now we are buying the likes of Lafferty & Grabban.yes we were relegated but if the club were serious about getting back at the first attempt we wouldn't have Adams as Mgr and we would be buying better players than the likes of Fulham. We will only get rid of the nice little Norwich tag when we get a more ambitious owner,

  • Bluelight, ol` pal, since LincsCan has brought music into play, here`s one for you, in connection with "Bambi" Whittaker:- "Twinkletoes", by Roy Orbison. An attempt at "Disco music", he famously sang it on stage in the UK with his foot in plaster - `cos he`d fallen off Dave Bickers` scrambler at Hawkstone Park that weekend. Reportedly, Bickers shouted out "I hope you haven`t broken anything". Roy said "I`m OK, Dave". Bickers replied "I`m talking about my f*****g Greeves!". I wonder if Bambi will be steadier on his feet now he`s a bit older? Or perhaps it `Disney` matter, Jimmy ;-) PS. Bickers might`ve been riding a CZ, not a Greeves. I can`t remember.

If we had stuck with Neil Doncaster I dread to think what would have happened. Yes, I wish Bryan Gunn had not been offered and indeed taken it but, even that wasn't all bad after was it not him that signed Grant Holt? As for your point about Delia who do you know with the kind of money to buy her and M.W.J. out? Also who else loves their club in the same way that they do N.C.F.C.?

Lots of photoshots and soundbites for Stevie F. But Lambert`s "impatience" got in the way of Hyacinth`s Bouquet. 3 phases of a Project:- Sack the innocent. Reward the Guilty. • My concern is that having established a football board to ensure we never again suffered the consequences of prolonged dithering this whole article reminds me of that very symptom which cost us so dearly last season. Worst of all we have only just brought on board the Head of Recruitment.A bit like Santa arriving in January. Then there is this prevaricating about players nearing the ends of contracts, worries about transfer fees, who wants it, who doesn't and on and on. Football board = decisiveness? I'm not so sure.

  • Agree with Swiss regarding Turner and Bennett as our CBs. Despite having the odd mistake in him, I think Turner is actually our most solid player in that position. Everyone loves Russ Martin so it's hard for me to say this but he is often our weakest defensive link and putting him at CB doesn't fill me with confidence. Adams looks like he's putting Martin there so I hope he proves me long. Maybe he'll cope a bit better in the Champ but I'm not convinced.

  • Hi, bluelight! Whitts did look a bit like Bambi on the ice at times. He is not alone in going into career-reverse under Hughton. Maybe another example of a SPL player not being up to EPL requirements. Hooper another. But we`re back in the Championship now, which is bit more like the upper reaches of the SPL. Though still a bit tougher, week after week. In Scotland, for Celtic, it`s weak after weak.

  • I am behind playing Ryan B. and Turner as CBs. Russ always gives 100% and is versatile but he is just does not really have the physical presence needed in the middle. His commitment to the team is second to none, the problem is where do you play him? There is the dilemma with Whittaker at RB, but given his fitness history, cover is always needed. How would Russ be at a holding midfield role if we lose Mr Tetty? Also, our German colleagues ('Schland as they are known here) showed us how to play 4-2-3-1. It does not have to be the toothless "where has everybody gone" style that we saw for the last two seasons. Play as a team and it works.

  • Exactly. Yes hes young & had 1 shocker last season against Liverpool, but for me hes the future and should certainly be 1st choice within the championship. Im not knocking Martin (im really not) as I understand why people like him or prefer him now at Centre back, but for me hes still a Right Back covering (very Well) at centre back and I wouldnt be keen on it being a full time gig. Especially if it resulted in Bennett being benched for another season.

  • As I said before my mate in Bournemouth reckons the have bid £1.5 million for Andrew Surman. Does the Brazil result exonerate our display against Manchester City, they played in our colours also performed as we did, showing that all teams can have off days but then again we had too many off days last season and I'm sure Mr. Scolari cannot be compared to CH. Good or bad.....

  • Agree with you nearly 100%, Mattias, as nearly always. Hughton had an uncanny aptitude for demotivating players in order to keep his favourites happy (Robert`s gone, now. Phew). Ryan Bennett was nicked from under Swansea`s nose by Lambert, for a hefty fee. I wouldn`t be surprised if Swansea or Lambo came back for him. What a waste of a year`s life to just wait for your contract to run down. Then, he just wasted 2 years of his career under Krughton. Surely, he`d rather PLAY football? Maybe Gary Holt will get his mind right. RB should be first choice CB unless he proves otherwise.

  • Just putting a different spin on it. Put yourself in Ryan Bennetts shoes (or boots so to speak). Would you want to stay? Before signing for us he was one of the hottest prospects (defensively) in the england youth ranks. However, under Chris 'clueless' Hughton he was only used when either Turner or Bassong was injured, and more often than not dropped immediately again when one of them returned. He's seen how the club act with players wanting to leave while under contract (see Wes Hoolahan last season). So for that reason I wouldnt be surprised if he just refused to talk to NCFC about a new deal and let his current deal run out and leave next summer for Free. I'll be gutted if he does as hes got all the attributes to be a massively player for us and potentially someone else at a higher level. Part of me is holding onto the hope that he features heavily this season, especially as Adams wants rid of Bassong so clearly. I have this feeling though that Adams is looking at playing Turner and Martin centre back which would lead to him being sub for yet another season.

  • Well said Cutty - a manager is supposed to manage. At the moment it's fire brigade stuff - if something happens well try and deal with it. For goodness sake shake them up Adams , get rid of the dross and get some fresh blood in. Surely some of the squad are detrimental to the overall motivation of the others and we'd be better rid. MrAdams for goodness sake do something.

Both Pilks and Hoolihan have been there too long and got to comfy. Given there's been offers for them before why not cash in and buy some young talent.

  • I'm sorry but Ryan Bennett is the best centre half we have, why not play him and Russ in the middle, chuck Bassong and Turner and Garrido and get 2 new centre halves and a new left and right back because Whitts can play either side... It's a no brainer, they all need a good kick up the butt to get themselves going again and to of that we need people who have hunger and the desire to want to play in the premier league instead of being stuck with mid table mediocrity in the championship for 5-10 years, that's what made Lambo so successful with us because no one knew what to expect.. Instead last season we signed a bunch of self indulged, egotistical, jumped up bunch of overrated, over paid lady boys... The only player willing to even attempt a slide tackle last season was Johnson and if we lost him, that steel in midfield would be missed because he's "Part of the furniture" so to speak - why can't we go back to signing English players who feel they have a point to prove? I mean, I'd have taken 23 of them to Brazil and I guarantee they would've put more effort in then the ones we actually took...
