Defender Sebastien Bassong joined Norwich City’s casualty list with an unhappy return to one of his former clubs.
The Canaries’ summer signing from Tottenham lasted less than eight minutes of yesterday’s Premier League game at Newcastle before he had to be substituted because of a tight hamstring.
Bassong pulled up immediately after jumping for a corner in the Newcastle goalmouth, and had to make way for Michael Turner.
Player of the season at St James’ Park in 2008-09 before his £8m move to White Hart Lane, the Cameroon international could now be sidelined as City prepare for the visit of Liverpool next Saturday.
“We’ll assess that one. It’s just a tight hamstring he had so we’ll assess how bad that one is over the next couple of days but we hope it’s not too bad,” said manager Chris Hughton.
“There are a few knocks and bruises which you expect in a tough game like it was today, but apart from Bassong I think we’re OK.”
Hughton promised changes for Wednesday night’s Capital One Cup third round tie at home to League One club Doncaster Rovers.
With players such as Ryan Bennett, Alex Tettey and Anthony Pilkington not getting a run-out yesterday, and David Fox, Marc Tierney and Chris Martin not even on the bench, Hughton has plenty of options.
In addition, others returning from injury could feature against Rovers.
“We have got a competitive squad and some of the injuries have come back – Elliott Bennett is very close and Jacob Butterfield hasn’t played a senior game yet.
“I do have good options to change it round and I will do that,” he said.

sorry diss but i tend to agree with mellow yellow [love the donavan ref] about mr Turner its not just his game at Fulham but quite a few for the wearsiders that gets him judged as 31wckerjch or not as good as bennett the defender.

maybe he can Tuner it around. Alright we conceeded after he came on but he's not a bad defender, he was once touted for England. Bassong is a big loss though as he's been excellent since signing and the back four have looked very solid. We can beat Liverpool, draw at Chelski and beat the Gooners (I hope). Would be very happy with 4 points from those 3.

Diss, looking at today's posts and the previous ones about Liverpool, has something happened to make you miserable and sarcastic?

@Mellow, that's a useful comment(?) Written off after just one Prem outing? You are obviously a very astute observer. Impressed.
