New Norwich City signing Robert Snodgrass was impressive as Scotland came from a goal down to beat Australia 3-1 at Easter Road.

Socceroos midfielder Marco Bresciano opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a thunderous volley, before Jordan Rhodes scored his first Scotland goal in his first start in the 28th minute with a diving header from a Danny Fox cross.

Australia substitute Jason Davidson put through his own goal with a header from a Fox cross in the 63rd minute, five minutes after coming on for his debut, before Scotland substitute Ross McCormack, who had replaced Rhodes, completed the scoring with a drive from the edge of the box.

Snodgrass’ Canaries team-mate Steve Morison was a substitute for Wales as they lost 2-0 to Bosnia-Herzegovina in Cardiff, where goals from Vedad Ibisevic and Miroslav Stevanovic gave the visitors a deserved win.

The closest Wales came to a goal was when new Liverpool signing Joe Allen hit the bar in the first half, though Morison also went close during his 20 minutes of action.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill was relieved to see his side break their scoring duck under his management in an entertaining 3-3 draw against Finland. His two previous matches in charge had ended in 3-0 and 6-0 defeats against Norway and Holland, but maiden international goals from Shane Ferguson and Martin Paterson, as well as a ninth senior strike from Kyle Lafferty, gave the Windsor Park faithful something to cheer.

The Republic of Ireland, denied by injury of a chance to give a run-out to City’s Wes Hoolahan and Anthony Pilkington, drew 0-0 with Serbia in Belgrade.

  • And I'm surprised he was allowed to play in his Norwich strip, or is the photo not related to the headline either?
