Norwich City defender Leon Barnett is hoping for another npower Championship promotion triumph after joining leaders Cardiff City on a month’s loan.
The 27-year-old centre back, who was an important figure in City’s triumphant 2010-11 campaign, completed the deal last night and could make his debut in tomorrow’s clash against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Barnett has slipped down the pecking order at Carrow Road since having a run of games alongside Sebastien Bassong at the start of the season.
With Bassong and Michael Turner now the partnership of choice, and Ryan Bennett in reserve, manager Chris Hughton has allowed the big defender to join Malky Mackay’s high-flying side to get some first team football.
Barnett joined the Canaries from West Brom in August 2010, initially on loan. City subsequently paid an undisclosed fee for his services and to date he has made 55 appearances for the club, 49 from the start, scoring two goals.
This season he has been restricted to 10 appearances, eight from the start, the last of which came in the ignominous FA Cup fourth round defeat at home to Luton Town, one of his former clubs.
The move means City now have eight players out on loan.

Yeah I really like Ayala last season. But He does seem to be injury prone. I think he is injured at present not sure. Bassong for me has done real well and Turner is looking more solid by the week. Whits should be in the team also, I agree with that. We need a decent plan to get service to our forwards.

True enough, ACC. Then we`ve leaked a lot of goals in some games he hasn`t played in too! All our CBs seem to prosper when playing alongside Big Bass, but now Turner has his football head firmly in place, that is certainly the best pairing. I wonder how Ayala is getting on at Forest (?). Hoots has certainly moved some of Lambo`s men aside.

I agree, bonesy. Though R. Bennett was a `headline` signing, on balance he does not look as solid and assured as Barney at the moment. I wonder what`s going on with Tierney; he is a reliable performer. I also wonder why Howson is not fulfilling his promise. Or E. Bennett, for that matter. Will Butterrfield be our surprise package next season? As long as we stay up will do for now!

another baffling hughton view from me. Fail to see why when Garrido is injured he plays Ryan Bennett (and not Tierney), why when a central midfielder is injured he insists on Howson (and not Fox) and why when a centre back is out he again brings in Bennett (and not Barnett). How he can't see that Barney is better than Bennett and Fox is better than Howson amazes me

That`s true, DJ_F. Seem to remember a horrendous racist incident a while back. As you say, they`ve had a financial makeover - plus a change of kit colour and soon to be renamed Cardiff Dragons? Imagine us changing colour to blue and renaming the team Norwich Coypus or something? I wonder if a sponsorship deal with a certain Welsh Brewer comes with the rebranding..... Anyway, Malky deserves success - he was dumped when we got to the Prem under Worthy and never got his chance. Big mistake - he is a born leader, good man. The moving finger writes and having writ moves on - maybe he`ll be back @ Carra Rud one day?

Great to see Malkey there, although not so Cardiff. Supporters are a bunch of thugs we can do without. Could see Cardiff doing well given current ownership and hugs potential support. Celtic must be green with envy!

Are we becoming Malky`s feeder club? He`s a good choice of manager to join. Be great to see him in the Prem. Good ol` Malky! Good luck, Barney.
