Norwich and Premier League rivals Swansea have reportedly had bids accepted for Birmingham’s England Under-21 starlet Nathan Redmond.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Former Canaries’ assistant boss Lee Clark confirmed on Monday his prized asset is now free to speak to two unnamed clubs to discuss personal terms after the Blues’ transfer valuation was met.

Chris Hughton fast-tracked Redmond into the first team at St Andrews during his Midlands stint and the 19-year-old had been widely touted with a Carrow Road reunion this summer.

The pacy wide player has already played 62 Championship games for the struggling Blues, but Clark admits Birmingham’s perilous financial position will force them to cash in.

“The truth, me being transparent and not speaking out of line, is that there are six to eight Premier League clubs interested in Nathan,” he told the Birmingham Mail. “That’s in various different ways. Sometimes you get a call from an agent, then get a call from the player’s agent, sometimes you get an inquiry from a fellow manager.

“Now what we have had are three bids, two that have been accepted and one that hasn’t been accepted. Now it’s up to Nathan if he wants to speak to those two clubs and see if it’s right for him. Unfortunately that’s where we are at the moment and we have just got to get on with it.”

  • I can't believe that CH has let all these young squad members leave if he has no plans to bring in new blood.in addition to those already gone the rumour mill has mentioned Vaughan, Butterfield and Pilkington as others who might leave. I also see the end for Grant Holt if we get another decent striker in. I can't see his ego putting up with that.

  • Presumably it is down to the player which side he chooses then ? Given that he played under Hoots at Birmingham, this should proce to be quite telling in his decision. He is only 19, so to have PL chasing him speaks volumes about his percieved potential. Can you imagine going from B'ham to Norwich - it must be like starting in hell and coming to heaven. Pity for Tom Adeyemi making that move in the wrong direction. Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles. OTBC

  • Silly to call any player aged 19 a championship player. In any case, a team is all about building a group of players that work for the systems you intend to play. Some clubs not a million miles from hear spent a fortune buying so called top players only to see their team fail because the overall mix was not right, and that includes the manager, coach etc. Even the fans play a part, especially if they get on the backs of certain players or even management. I too though Tom had prospects but that is now water under the bridge and if Redmond does come here he will certainly get my backing as long as he performs for the team.

No old fashioned reporting, getting down the training ground listening for snippets or interviews of the management team or heaven forbid the players. RVW starts with us on Monday - surely he's in Norwich sorting out accommodation etc.- any chance of a proper interview with him.

The others too, to varying degrees. Adeyemi, Smith, Francomb in descending order. And WILL Declan return? If Butterfield goes, what WAS the point of all that?? Unless we cash in - which seems unlikely as he hardly ever plays. There has to be a bigger picture, privy only to those `in the know`, and not to we mere Keyboard Jockeys `on the periphery`. I have suggested maybe a bit about how the Academy works in tandem with the U-21 management and the club as a whole. It is much easier, of course, to wheel out one of our Stars of Yesteryear to utter a few pre-paid platitudes. Though, when it comes to closeness to the Club, are Divot & Co. in fact merely "on the periphery"?

(Can`t beat a good conspiracy theory AND I can`t believe Tom was not worth a fee or at least compensation - but we released him). I know nothing about Redmond, but it seems the Academy products of other clubs are preferred to those of our own. This guy`s about the same age as the Multiple Murphys? You`d expect Hoots to have the edge on this deal, assuming Nathan has good memories of his old boss. A lot of trolling today. Thanks for greetings, Steely. This means I lost my bet - I had one on that I would fail to reach the qualifying age for my state pension. Now I`ve got to live for ever to make good the loss - sorry about that, everybody! So Hughton and McNally where are they - with over £60 million in your back pockets and a purportedly fantastic scouting system where are they. Another player who has been mentioned in the past who is expecting to be transferred this summer is Sporting Lisbons wide player Diego Capel. Apparently a good player, used to playing with RVW and with a club receptive to bids for their players. Surely it can't be too difficult to get players in - just get on with it for goodness sake.
