Reported transfer target Ola Toivonen will sit down and think about his future over the coming days – but the Swede admitted he knew little about Norwich City’s interest.

Dutch media on Tuesday claimed the Canaries and PSV Eindhoven had come to a £4.7m agreement for the 26-year-old forward, who will enter the final year of the Eredivisie contract next season and is refusing to sign a new one.

But after playing most of Sweden’s World Cup qualifying win over the Faroe Islands last night, Toivonen played it cool over the speculation.

Asked by Swedish media about his future and the links with Norwich, Toivonen said: “I have not thought about it and did not hear about. I was only concerned with the match for Sweden. Wednesday I’m going to talk about it and reflect.”

And while Toivonen has mentioned a Premier League move would interest him, Carrow Road has not exactly been on his radar.

“I really do not know – what I have at home is not the right TV channels. I only have Canal Digital, so I have not seen a Premier League match this year. So I can tell you very little about Norwich City.

“I have already said that it is an interesting competition, the Premier League, but it is about what the club is all about. That plays an important role. I do not like too many high balls.”

While attacking reinforcements have dominated the early summer speculation for City, a possible defensive recruit came to light on Wednesday in the form of Nigerian left-back Elderson Echiejile.

The defender at Braga, who Norwich will travel to face in Portugal as part of their pre-season plans, has reportedly turned down the chance to extend his current stay at the Portuguese side.

And Africa’s MTN Football say City are the latest club to indicate interest in the Nigeria international defender, along with Greek champions Olympiacos and Spain’s Real Mallorca.

“Everything is pointing towards Elderson’s exit from Braga with Norwich the latest to show interest in signing him,” MTN quoted a source close to the player.

“There is also interest from a top club in Italy, but how serious this is will only be known later this month.”

Braga have apparently already signed two players in the close season who can play in Echiejile’s position.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail has suggested the Canaries are in a list of clubs hoping to land England Under-21 and Birmingham City winger Nathan Redmond.

The 19-year-old is also said to be interesting Crystal Palace, Fulham and Swansea City, with the cash-strapped Blues aiming to push his price up to £3m – despite just 12 months remaining on Redmond’s St Andrew’s contract.

Redmond worked under Chris Hughton during the City manager’s previous spell at Birmingham.

  • A month since the end of the season and we have managed to secure Garrido on a permanent basis. I am virtually losing control with all the excitement. I am beginning to think out transfer policy has a lot to do with wages - sign someone on £25000 a week now will cost almost half a million by the start of the season and virtually nothing if you leave if till August.

  • Swiss - that is good news. I have seen Bong play a couple of years ago for VAFC against Auxerre. He is a lightly built ,fast left back from what I remember and was one of the best players on the pitch. I only really remembered three players from the game and he was one. Valenciennes was the venue for a stag weekend and we took in the match on the Sunday. It is a little down at heel in an area known as France's rust bucket. Certainly no bright lights to tempt the local footballers. The ground was also a bit tatty but they have since moved to a sparkling new stadium that is a mini version of the Munich golf ball. I was surprised at the violence in the crowd as they had running battles with the police and stewards throughout the second half. Horses and dogs were brought in. Not very French at all. Anyhow Bong has been there for a few years now and would be a good purchase.

  • Very astute, Lobbo. The notion of an alter-alias had occurred to me, too. A sort of Jeckyll & Hyde, or one of those cartoon villains in Spiderman etc. Recent S\O postings have been notable by their new-found intelligibility, (even found myself agreeing more than once!) while Huckerrrrby`s seem redolent of the style we had come to expect of the "old" S\O. You can`t beat a good conspiracy theory! In fairness to NCFC, Victor, they had already got RvW, plus Garrido on permanent - but we have released a few squad players leaving us a bit thin in places, LB, f`rinstance?

  • Fourth day now for this article - can we please have something up to date and interesting - has everyone at Carrow Road lost their voices or have they absolutely nothing to tell the supporters. I see Southampton have bought a Croatian international centre back - if they can buy class players we should be in with a shout.

  • Toivonen has got one thing wrong straight away. The Premier League is not an interesting competition in fact the total opposite. We all know the top three at the end of next season already in fact we know the top five. What's interesting in that ?

  • Steely D, I've only seen a little bit of chat about it on a Euro site but he fits the profile and our scouting team does seem to be good at doing the unexpected. Probably just a rumour though. I know what you mean about the area. Reading my Grandfather's Lett's pocket diary for 1916, an awful lot of Norfolk & Suffolk lads died just SW of there in the Battle of the Somme.

  • Echiejile looks a good player with plenty of good reviews about his play on other sites. He would be a class act for us if we can get him but I think we would have to move quick. Redmond is a young winger with potential - aren't we some way down that road already with young Benno and Pilkington - but probably both of them need competition to see what they are made of.

  • Other clubs are beginning to get players in now, I do hope our management team have identified the players they want by now and that the executive can move swiftly and efficiently to get some of them tied down. We certainly don't want a repeat of January when we ended up chasing after players who were just playing hard to get and then turning to desperate measures to sign anyone who was available.

A lot must depend on what Hoots has in store for the likes of Ayalla Vaughan and Butterfield I'd rather not rush and buy some over rated over paid prima donna; better to stick out for the right options.

I think that so far we are trying to strengthen in the right areas. We do need another striker and I would like competition at left back too. I would also like to see some rumours or deals being done for that midfielder we have all been on about that we need. OTBC and an exciting summer ahead.

Are they future treasures or dross to be disposed of? If the former, then we`ve got some `new` signings in effect and there is no need to make any rash purchases.
