Norwich City have had to find different opposition for the first match of their pre-season tour of Italy tonight – after Novara pulled out of the match at late notice.

A statement on City’s website says the change was “due to circumstances beyond the club’s control” and have replaced the Serie C side with S.C. Vallée d’Aoste.

The northern Italian club play in one of the nine regional divisions of Serie D, which is the highest non-professional level in Italy.

The match will be played at 5pm UK time (6pm local time) at the Piergiorgio Perucca Stadium in Aosta, Saint-Vincent, where Neil Adams has taken his squad for a week.

The Canaries are due to face Serie B side Livorno at the same venue on Wednesday, also at 5pm UK time, before travelling across the border to France to face Ligue One side Bastia at the Stade d’Honneur in Sallanches at 6pm on Friday – who are managed by former Chelsea and France midfielder Claude Makelele.

  • Blimey, did I really see 13-0 to City? Was it really worth the effort? A good fitness and ego boost I suppose. We barely scored more than that for the whole of last season, long may it continue.

  • Horror of horrors el dingo, "love potion Chloe" has been removed\expunged\deleted from the "Norwich City Top Boys" board. Who will mend broken hearts from now on. Or twisted ankles. Missing her already. Come back Chloe, Archie means no harm. It was your first time, you'll learn. Take some Love Potion Number Nine. PS, tracked down and enjoyed that Bowie track.

  • It's bizarre the way this happens. Something like this happened to Ipswich recently with a Romanian team didn't it?

  • I don't know why these clubs go abroad for friendlies against these types of opposition, there are plenty of teams over here that would play

  • Agree with nmtd. Nothing is worth the risk - apologies to the locals, but it doesn't seem to be worth it.

  • So the equivalent of playing a Conference team (non-professional) instead of one who were a Serie A team a few years ago but have who have since been relegated ............. please please please do not come away from this game with any injuries. I'd rather this game did not go ahead. Even putting the 'second XI' out makes me uncomfortable .......... OTBC
