Norwich City boss Neil Adams insisted the Canaries have not bid £10m for Leeds hitman Ross McCormack.

The City chief rejected fresh speculation City and fellow relegated Premier League rivals Fulham are locked in a battle for last season’s Championship’s top scorer.

The Cottagers had a bid turned down earlier this summer for the Scottish international, who has also been linked with a Carrow Road switch, but Adams confirmed at Colney on Tuesday morning McCormack is not on his radar. Reports of a £5m bid for Watford’s Troy Deeney are also well wide of the mark.

“There is nothing in that. We have made no offer for McCormack,” said Adams. “I’ve read about plenty of others as well. What we are doing is looking everywhere of course and with agents and players people make assumptions. There was another dozen names that I have been linked with and we have supposedly made offers for that is plainly untrue.

“As and when we do we will let the supporters and the media know. There is no pulling the wool over the eyes here. We have not made a bid for McCormack or for any other player.”

Adams’ immediate priority is a new goalkeeping coach after Dave Watson completed his expected move to Southampton. The City boss is confident of finding a replacement within the next two days.

“Dave was an excellent coach and the fact he was with England at the World Cup tells you how highly he is regarded,” said Adams. “He has managed to go to a Premier League club and we wish Dave all the best. Again, it is one of those you can’t really stand in his way with the level he has been working at in Brazil. We now have to get some cover in quickly. We should have some by tomorrow (Wednesday). Whether that is permanent or temporary it needs looking at straight away. That is priority for now.”

McCormack has reportedly stayed behind in England with the rest of Leeds’ squad now in Italy for a pre-season training camp to resolve his future, with Skysports claiming on Tuesday morning Fulham remain in pole position to sign the Elland Road frontman.

  • Or balsamic GCSE. With samphire. Only £19.95 (starter). It`s great living in a cardboard box in Morston. So nice of those Chelsea Tractor drivers to park on me. Keeps the rain off.

  • Monty Python tribute on some channel or other tonight. I would like to see... Duuur. Rio Ferdinand is too young for Woodwork `O` levels. It must be GCSE Balsa or similar. As long as full PPE is used and nobody learns anything.

  • Dubai if you'd make a better manager than most people on this site it still wouldn't be much of an achievement. In fact I rate you higher than that.

  • Dubai I get your thinking there, but sadly I doubt we would be able to get anywhere near his wage demands. I expect him to sign for QPR or one of the other lower Prem teams

  • What about Rio Ferdinand ? He is well qualified, well if a woodwork O level counts. He could be drafted in to supply some height, experience and lead the charge back to the Prem.

  • All the new strikers . The news I want to hear is that one hit wonder RVW is going , followed quickly by Hooper. Throw in about six of last years pathetic team and build a team worthy of the Championship which is where this board intends for the City to stay. All the money safely in the bank. Football is secondary to finance.

  • There was a lot of press about Leroy Fer and his goal for Holland, and rightly so. But not a word about Joseph Yobo and his Nigerian team. With well over a hundred caps, he scored a goal also, unfortunately the goal was for France!

  • City need to keep a Premiership attitude and attract really hungry quality players also need some experienced players to pass on their knowledge. Do not get a Championship mentality

  • However many strikers are we going for?...lol...Makes me worried for the future of Hooper tbh...Grabban, Lafferty, RvW, Becchio and now McCormack...(I read this morning, McCormack is being courted by a few Premier League teams...so I think that'll be a non goer)...one thing for sure...he'll either be playing for us, but not against us this season, I'd imagine!!! (Maybe Becchio will be on his way back to Leeds as part of the deal, eh?)...Agree with Colin...centre of defence and back up, is more of a concern to me and of course midfield...depending on stayers and goers....(anyway...it'll all start happening from today...with the transfer window now officially open!!!) • Sadly Bassong's attitude and commitment levels will probably be even worse in a lower division. There will be no fire in his belly at all. I hope Adams is on to this, and I agree with canary can-can that we need to spend what money we do have around the pitch so we have the depth you need for 46 tough games. Four centre halves is a must. We can sell one striker without needing to replace, but any further departures will need equivalent replacements to come in.

  • If 7 to 8 million for Snodgrass is laughable, what does 10 million for McCormack become? Dont get me wrong, I like the player but 10 million? Wowzer!

  • Good. That valuation is ridiculous. We are better off spreading money around the team, ensuring we have quality and coverage in every position. I'm hoping we are asking a similarly ludicrous figure for olsson

  • Haha we're going up! If we stay out of needless bidding wars when we've got a decent strike force in the form of Laff, Grabban, Loza and, arguably Becchio. Hooper is off at a loss and reckon they'll keep Winkel but put him on loan and when we go back up (PMA) he'll be full of confidence and play well. If not we can sell him at not-such-a-loss. Done.

  • Definitely agree regarding centre halves Colin, especially regards offloading Bassong and signing two with the money. Would love it if we had the on-form Bassong back but I can't see it happening after his attitude and the end of last season. We need players with a bit more fire in the belly than that and I'm sure Adams knows it...

  • Strikers aren't our priority, nor are wide players, nor (if we keep Wes and Fer) are we after creative attacking midfielders. I would argue that if we played a 3 man defence with wing backs (keeping Olsson is the only essential) and if Ruddy stays then we should be good enough defensively too. But what this team needs is somebody that will dominate the midfield.... not necessarily the best player in the world but somebody that is just of quiet and calm authority who can dictate the tempo of a game and control the middle through presence alone. Although he has been injured recently, I would like to see Adams consider Dickson Etuhu. Hugely under rated when he was here previously, but whenever I have seen him at Fulham and Blackburn he still looks the part. He and Fer in the middle, with Johnson as backup (could Johno be considered on the left side of a 3 man defence?) would really be a very physical and box to box midfield, flanked by real pace (and natural L & R width) with Olsson and E Bennett as WBs? When you need an extra man to control and create then Wes should play in the hole, with 2 appropriate strikers ahead of him... but when Wes isn't needed then 2 very pacey and direct players playing off of a point man would be perfect. Before you heckle me about Johnson, to me he and Olsson were the players of the season... But Johnson is at his best in the tackle and when facing the play, and he has added a range of passing to his game and he is reasonably calm on the ball. I think he COULD adapt very well to that role and give the defence a natural left footer. But I don't think he is as talented as Fer in attack and I don't think Fer and Johno are mature enough to play together, they both need an older head, hence Dickson. And doesn't Etuhu still have ties around here? Surely he is the kind of guy we want back here?

  • It looks like we could soon be fielding 10 strikers and a GK ! What a sure and obvious way to score plenty of goals - why hasn't someone thought of that before ? I should really be in football management, I'd probably be better than most of you lot on here !

  • Agree. Not really healthy to keep buying from the same club. Plus with Grabban, Lafferty, Becchio, RVW and Hooper, we could probably do with selling a striker or two before we buy another. More important for me is that we strengthen at centre half. We won't go up relying on the injury prone trio of Turner, Bassong and R Bennett. You need four good centre halves. My ideal would be to sell Bassong and sign two players. Harry Maguire and Steve Cook would be useful, even if Cook would mean a second signing from Bournemouth.
