Chris Hughton deflected the praise onto his Norwich City players after a stunning late comeback edged out Everton 2-1 in a breathless Premier League encounter at Carrow Road.
Grant Holt’s stoppage time close range finish earned a first top flight win for the Canaries in ten matches after Sporting Kansas City loan striker Kei Kamara had cancelled out Leon Osman’s first-half header.
City’s late two-goal salvo moved them eight points clear of the current bottom three, but Hughton downplayed his role in the priceless win after unleashing Kamara for the final half an hour.
“Once you are 1-0 down you have to be honest and say when we equalise you would settle for that but those lads wanted something different,” said Hughton. “How crucial that win is I don’t know but what I do know is it feels psychologically important to break through that 30-point barrier. We were up against a really good side but we showed so much determination to get the winner. I think as always when you bring on substitutes you are hoping they can affect the game and that is probably more important than scoring the goals. With Kei he gives us something different to what we have. He is not upto speed yet in regards his fitness but I am really delighted for him.”
Hughton admitted bringing in Kamara last month was a calculated gamble with the Sierra Leone international moving to Norfolk until May with the potential for a permanent switch in the summer.
“We were aware of him a while back,” said Hughton. “Our chief scout was aware we might be able to bring him over as he had been in this country before. With that it is always about timing and it was a little bit of a risk bringing a player over that you don’t know how quickly they can settle into the league in January.”

Johnny Gavin Lives, back on topic. Agree reference Foxy, the ring-rusty bit. It`s a shame `cos he`ll never lose the corrosion unless he plays, but as you say, when he has played he`s been off the pace and a weak link. He can be a class act. Didn`t he sign a contract extension? The only motive for that would seem to be guaranteeing the Club a sensible fee. Unlike the Chris Martin scenario.

Southampton may have scored more than us Lobbo, but the reason they are below us is that they have let in eight more goals at the other end. On to another point, there are a lot of people shouting for Foxy to be in the team but the problem with him is that whenever he has played this season he has seemed ring-rusty and hasn't done himself any favours, eg. when he came on against W Ham, had a punt at goal and skied the ball about three miles over the bar.

Hi, Man from the Prairie. I agree entirely. From the outset, the unlikely recruitment of this "mystery man", Kei, was going to be a talking point. No experience of European Football. 28 yrs. old and only just been noticed. Trial at Stoke resulted in nothing (he deserves better than THAT, for certain!). Now, Norwich fans, desperate for a bit of excitement, are heaping expectations high upon him. So far, everything that has been seen of him is good. Charismatic, warm, enthusiastic - and it looks like he can play a bit, too! We just need to give him space - he may have a "stinker" next time he plays. Then is the time for us not to overreact. Thanks for letting us borrow him - his English is certainly closer to English than Naaarfolkese is!! OTBC. Is it true it never rains in Southern California?

Mad Brewer, as you have probably surmised, I've been in Kei Kamara's corner since before most even knew soccer (football) was played in Kansas. I totally agree with you about giving him time to adjust to the gamer there, to improve his physical condition and to getting an understanding of the team and teammates. He's capable of doing many things, just let him build up his game rather than having it set by website commentators. And, look at his complete game, his defense, his support and his passes for assists.

Did not rate Howson's contribution. Johnson went a bit tame after the Fell a Nani incident. Then again Fellani didn't achieve much second half . I assume Mr Moyse took note of Fellani's marking ability for our two goals. Need to have Pinnar checked out - he seems to have a balance problem. And just maybe Mason played a bit longer to give Everton the chance to break away and score. Or since the time shown is a MINIMUM - up to 3 minutes 59 seconds could have been played. Who cares - a great 3 points..

Wise words of caution from the WesternCanary in respect of Kei. Give the man a chance to settle in before talking him up too much. Already 40+% of voters on the boards made him MoM, based on half an hour. True he does look promising. True, that was a cracking header. True he has charisma and energy by the bucketload. He could turn out to be the "find" of the century...but give him a chance!

To take Steady On's role for once, I have to appreciate what dreadful decisions a manager has to make. Wes had a poor day but if he had been dropped and the result had gone the other way, what abuse would Hoots have taken for his pains? Howson is having a poor run but the only way to get him out of it is a run in the team. Fox has had few chances this season but his most recent against Luton was not that convincing. (extra marks for understatement?). Now Steady on, here's your chance.............

Agree with MJC75. Hoolahan was very poor and would much prefer to see Pilkington on the left. Hope he gets the start next time as he made a big difference when he came on. I would also like to see Fox's creativity in a home game ahead of Howson's pedestrian performance. Kei Kamara was awesome. However, calls to sign him permanently are somewhat premature. Lets see what he does for the rest of the season first shall we? One swallow does not make a summer. Hopefully we get more of the same though, as he was a much needed injection of movement and enthusiasm.

Good morning, Billy. I agree with you 100% reference Bradley Johnson`s contibution - he did a great job on Fellaini. Hesitate to say it, but he `left his mark`. Fellaini`s no Angel either! BJ has matured into a rock of reliability in that `destroyer` role, he picks out his short passes well & works massively hard for the team. Btw, not sure that whipped cream is the best accompaniment for `humble` (sic) pie, since that delicacy is traditionally made from offal. Originally `numbles` meaning the entrails of an animal, specially deer. From the Latin `lumbulus` meaning loin. Don`t know what made me think of Steamed Offal when I first saw the S\O rant.

Its amazing how much positivity this win has brought our club. Looking at the league table I would say that besides those already near the bottom, Sunderland and West Ham are in far more diffuiculties than we are now, esp if you look at the games they both have to play. As for us, we have games at Man U, ASnal (not a typo) and Man city where I dont expect anything (although I live in hope). Other than that I think in every other game we are capable off getting at least 1 point, and with positive play and postive thinking 3 points in a few of them. Upwards and onwards City!

Only obvious weak links yesterday were Hooly and Howson every other player looked good and the subs. did their job brilliantly. 70 minutes of mediocrity and 20 of real excitement mostly caused by Moyes team wasting as much time as possible, the keeper taking 5 minutes to take a goal kick each time and Moyes has the cheek to moan that he Ref had given City extra, extra time. Both sides got their just deserves.

Good morning Steady On, I hope you are having a good day. You are correct in that you did not actually say that EVERY football manager knows what he is doing but when you say: "He's a professional football manager. He knows what he is doing", it does tend to imply that you are suggesting the second statement is evidenced by the first. I don't really understand why we should feel "Mugged off" whatever that vulgar phrase may mean. We heaped, possibly excessive amounts of scorn on Hughton because he selected a single striker format for games they should be expected to win, failed to make appropriate substitutions when despite being the better team they could not score and then rued the lack of goals. Now by selecting two strikers and making a good positive substitution, the team won. I am by no means suggesting that Hughton took advice from this site but I do feel that the moaners have been proved right. Don't you feel a tiny bit grateful?

Not one of our most convincing performances that's for sure, but I guess that's exactly the type of win it was going to be going 9 games without a win. Everton controlled the game and I thought that was us done and dusted, but something we haven't done for a while was hoist the ball in the box, hem them in and batter them, we did and it set us up for a grandstand finish. Honorable mention on Bradley Johnson who defended, passed and did a great job on Fellaini, he's so underrated by us Norwich fans IMO.

According to `Man from the Prairie`, KK was raised in Southern California, and that is what has shaped his accent. In reply to canarydown under, I imagine that Russell Martin is still in the team because he hasn't done much wrong since replacing Whittaker. It was his floated pass that made the second goal. Great to have the competition for places. I do think we have to play more of a part as the 12th man though. The atmosphere was incredible after the equaliser and I 'm sure it played its part in pushing the lads on to get the winner.

A good though unexpected win, possibly the game that saved Norwich for another season in the prem. Had the Norwich boys been Everton fans, they'd felt cheated this morning, but nevertheless a good result. Im not a Holt fan, in my opinion he's overweight and too slow for the premiership, several times during the game when Norwich were defending and then broke away on the counter, Holt never once made it into the Everton box, watch the 67th minute counter and the ref overtakes him. Did someone say that Kamara comes from the Ivory Coast ? he sounds more english than half of Naaaarfolk !!!

Agree Spark - Kamara grabs the headlines but Turner and particularly Bassong were fantastic at the back. Unfortunately, Hoolahan was all at sea on the wing, and can't defend. I hope Pilkington pays at Old Trafford. Anyone else puzzled as to why R Martin has been preferred to Whittaker of late?

Great game, so much better than the last few. I nearly choked on my coffee when Hoots made a change with more than 5 minutes left on the clock, I wonder if he would have done the same if we were 0-0. I think Snodgrass has played well all season, and Bassong was classy yesterday, Will be good to get Ruddy and Whittaker back too. I'm with H57, I don't rate Howson at all. Maybe he'll come good but I don't see anything yet. Will be interesting to see if Hoots plays KK and LB together at some point.... OTBC!!

Could be a good time to play Man Utd ! They are 15 points clear, and nothing but a fiasco could stop them from winning the title now. They host us on 2 March and then have Real Madrid at home 5 March. Hopefully they will keep their big guns fresh for the Champions League and field their B team against us. That could give us the perfect opportunity to go and get a win ! 6 Points against Man Utd would be a good haul for the season, and, would probably just about see us staying up. OTBC

Great three points, KK welcome and keep it up, energy levels were high so trip in the sun worked. Making changes early was another plus point and for me Pilks fills the role for 4-4-2. As for Moyes at the end, petulant kid or what. He is not the only one to not get it that it is a minimum time added on, even Mark Bowen who was pundit for the game along with Andy Townsend had debate on it...but Fergie moments are good! Great result today and superb to see three points despite the team being weakened beyond belief by those on this site daring to criticise previous results. The fact remains that those previous results were poor and as today Hughton played two up front from the start and made a tactical substitution before 80 minutes were on the clock, we knockers will feel vindicated. I can't get annoyed at Steady On though. He has his point of view which is that every professional football manager knows what he is doing. I can actually agree that but it does not change the fact that they do not get it right all the time. Try telling a QPR fan that Mark Hughes knew what he was doing or try to convince me that The Rodent did. They can get it wrong big time. Gladly today things went well. Hooray

Today has to be a great day,Kamara what a player, the game completely changed whe him came on, it seemed to lift the players & the fans, and what a header, a super star in the making! Kamara & Holty have to be up frot against Man Utd, an i have to agree with mjc75 as they have Real Madrid three days after they play us, so i think they will probably put out a weaker side due to that. Not sure if i should say this but I still don't rate Howson (welcome for come backs on that one) I have to say that CH looked very pleased with both goals and the win as his reaction on all occasions were priceless. Why is it every time I sign in, I see Steady On having a pop at mjc75 and i've only been on this site for about 2 days lol. Anyways well done to the lads today CTID!!!

Fantastic win today, CH got it right today, and the team played their hearts out, Wes i feel was unable to play to his portental, but it was good to see King Kamara and Holty score, but what a start for King Kamara, he changed the entire game, so for me, he has to start against Man Utd, we scared i think not, as like mjc75 said i think they will have a weaker side seeing as they have to play Real Madrid three days. Why is it that every time i sign on to this site i see Steady On slagging of mjc75, i have only been on this site about 3 days lol, lets all just enjoy the win to day and hope its the start of more to come, in my eyes thats us safe.

Obviously delighted with three points. I haven't watched the game yet so can't comment on any of that. However, I do wish Hughton would be slightly more opinionated towards City in his after match speeches. I've just watched him almost apologise for us winning in Fergie time because Moyse was having a girlie fit over it. We've had more than our fair share of controversies against us, penalties, free kicks etc, take the good when it comes along because it's not often we benefit from anything along those lines. Well done City.

Andy , you're right , someone put the comments that were made by the Sporting Kansas CEO . He said that a deal was in place to make it permanent in the summer , so hopefully McNasty is on the case ; )

When we signed Kamara, didn't someone post what was said to be quote from the Kansas manager that said a fee had been agreed for the option to buy Kamara at the end of the loan period? Good to get a win under our belt at last - hopefully this will give us a little more confidence now.

Well said canarywest, constructive criticism to help Hoots find the way forward. God help the club if we are not allowed to criticise the club and allow mediocrity set in. Always good to have a Plan B and implement it with time to have effect. Well done to Hoots and all the players today fantastic result

Going forward, I hope Hughton learns a lot from this game. For me it showed the benefits of positive and attacking decesions over negativity. We were outclassed for 60 plus minutes but being positive enough to bring Kamara on after 60 minutes(rather than 85) certainly paid dividends. Also thought Pilkington needed to be brought on and it was his attacking play that won the corner for the equaliser. For me Wes is too light-weight and Everton brushed him off the ball with ease every time he got it. I was crying out for Pilkington instead of Hoolahan from half time. I hope we can start the next home game with the same 11 that ended this one.

I see where you are coming from MB, but I agree with sharky, McNally is not usually one to let the club get shafted with things like this, I wouldn't be surprised if we already have first refusal, at a pre-arranged fee. Can't believe we were considering spending £10mil on Gary Hooper a couple of weeks ago, that seems like a pretty good decision tonight, doesn't it!?

Soamesy, at the risk of putting the "mockers" on a superb day, I expect Kei`s agent\management team are out to optimise the opportunity. If he is any good, the highest bid wins. Unless he falls in love with Delia`s cooking! On scant evidence, he does look good. Why has nobody noticed him before?? He`s 28 and scored against MUFC in a friendly, in front of a crowd of 54,000 for KC.;-)

Kei has been a revelation, we must get him signed up as soon as possible. If he keeps playing like that, other teams might want him by the summer (and may be able to offer more money for him than we can afford)!

A few folk locally have opined that Becchio did not shape up. I thought he did the "workhorse" shift selflessly and left Kei with a chance to shine - which he certainly did. Holty remains the old oak-heart of the team, Bassong the new one and Snods the "Hucks with added work-ethic". A superb afternoon for Canary fans. We never minded late escapes in the Lambo era, did we? So happy. And meaningful substitutions!!
