Chris Hughton insisted no-one should be in any doubt about Norwich City’s character after a brave late fightback earned a 1-1 Premier League draw at ten-man Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
The Canaries deserved at least a point for their efforts at White Hart Lane after being denied at times single-handedly by veteran Spurs keeper Brad Friedel. New Tottenham signing Mousa Dembele had punished some slack control from Jonny Howson to fire the hosts ahead on 69 minutes, but Robert Snodgrass swept home Grant Holt’s knockdown for a late leveller. Andre Villas-Boas’ side were reduced to ten men for the original four minutes of added on time at the end of the game when Howson was clattered on half-way by Tom Huddlestone, but City were again foiled by Friedel who thwarted the superb Bradley Johnson when play restarted.
“We certainly had the better chances,” said Hughton. “I think as the away side against the sort of quality they have here when you play that well you deserve something in the 90 minutes. It is a tough place to come. Sometimes that is how it happens. If you are away from home and you don’t take your chances then the law of averages are, against a side like Tottenham, they will wear you down and make the most of any opportunity. The thing I was most pleased about was the response to going behind. It would have been easy to go into our shells but to go 1-0 behind here and not let our heads drop and then force an equaliser and being pushing for a winnner at the end speaks volumes.”

A brilliant performance straight out of the top drawer. Despite going a goal behind I knew by the way we were playing that we would go away with at least a point. Shame the three unwise monkeys on MOTD suggested that we would be "in a relegation battle". Must have been watching something else. If we continue to play with the spirit, tenacity, and creativity shown on Saturday we won't have anything to fear.

wivenhoebudgie don't like to use your real name! maybe it is like your spelling in your comments. I would like to point out to you that I was NOT criticising Norwich game, the very highly paid keeper and his lack of skills. Saturday morning I read in a National newspaper the Premium League team positions etc., teams that had played 3 games so far this season, bottom, Norwich, goals for, 2, goals against 7, the writing backs up my voicing that we need a real keeper, a catcher and saver of the ball, easy enough to pick it out of the back of the net to keep certain people satisfied,not me thank you.

Absolutely true dingo, but I'm not - this time - complaining about the quality, just let's have ACCURACY, not emotive words written for effect. In fact, apart from not clarifying that Snoddy actually scored our goal 5 minutes BEFORE the sending off, PD's report actually is more factual once you read past the opening paragraph - but why accentuate a "ten-man team", when this was only a fact for the closing moments of the game, or talk of a "comeback", when you can see from his own report that this was not a fair description of Norwich's game? No, read Mike Bailey's report on Snoddy for fairness, or David Cuffley's match report for accuracy - particularly the opening "taster" paragraph.

I see the wonderful Swansea were mentioned below. Did anyone else notice their "rugged" ie dirty play yesterday? Neil Taylor who broke his ankle was lucky not to get a yellow card going in studs up in the tackle where he got injured. Chico getting sent off for a spot of head kicking shouldn't even have been on the pitch after a previous 2 footed, studs up tackle. These seem to have been ignored in the general adulation. I'm sure that Holtie, Johno and co will not allow themselves to be bullied.

A ten-strong party from Coltishall went to the game. I saw four of them in the pub today. Each one gave a better report than Paddy Divot. Fantastic performance by all accounts. I can only afford a home season ticket these days - away is just too expensive to contemplate. OTBC.

What do you mean "ten-man Tottenham" Paddy? Huddlestone was only sent off in the 89th minute. That means they were only down to 10 men for 1 minute (well, 5, actually, as the ref did add on 4 minutes at the end for some reason best known to himself!) Huddlestone himself had only been on the pitch for 7 minutes, having come on in the 82nd for Defoe. And furthermore, what do you men about a "brave fightback"? The only fightback was done by Spurs who were boo-ed off the pitch at half time by their own fans for a performance which only saw them in the City half for around 5 minutes of the entire 45! In fact what was remarkable was why City were not at least 2-0 up at half time, and why they did not score at least 3 in the last 10 minutes of the game! I have not seen a City side dominate so much in a match for a very long time. I was there Paddy - were you? And if you were, lets have some accurate reporting - we get little enough credit from the London and Manchester Press - the least we can hope for is a bit of honesty and support from the Local Press!

Some inspired signings by CH, thus far, Bassong, Garrido & Snodgrass (no particular order) Building from the back - the recognised way to build a team? Re Bassong & Garrido, just shows what belief - a little l-o-v-e, can do. (as in life?). I listened to R5, watched MOTD, for my untrained eyesears it looked as good a dish, as our late chef, Sig. Lambertoni, had ever served - better maybe? P.S. Would loved to have been a 'fly-on-the-wall', down the A140, around 16.45pm, yesterday - Frankie V, you beauty!!!

That's better, playing good football, played spurs off the park yesterday. Everything right except the result! Hopefully as stated by many that will sort itself out over the coming weeks. It will be a long hard season but that's why Norwich want to be in the Premier League, it's the best League in the British Isle's to be in!

As others have commented, the media & pundit reaction was SO predictable. We 'snatched, grabbed & stole' a point. On MOTD, it was where the Mighty Spurs went wrong, blah, blah. The R5 commentary, much the same, where AVB was getting it wrong. Then, the 'piece de resistance', the final comments of messrs Shearer & Rednapp, re the rest of the season. Spurs top four said 'arry, Norwich will be in a fight - no doubt about it said Shearer. Based on resources & history, gents? It certainly wasn't based on the evidence here, m'lud.

Credit where credit is due, well done Morison. I thought he did very well and seemed to really want it for the first time in a long time. If he can keep playing with that kind of desire then I wouldn't be shy of starting him. I love Jackson, he runs around a lot, gains us a lot of ground, but just doesn't seem to be able to do much with the ball when it counts. He is a good impact substitute, but I wouldn't start him. I miss Hoolahan!

Great result. Why there are negative comments is beyond me. The City more than deserved a point and what have they go to do to get a penalty? Heartily sick of media comments . M of the Day pundits spent the whole time talking about Spurs and Fridal in particular. And the newspapers all seem to agree that City " snatched a point " and not that City could have won the game. The City will never be able to compete against the large clubs financially but have showed that they can play football and give as good as they get.is it that Long may they remain in the big league.

Second week running that City have been robbed by the ref against a London team. From six thousand miles away, I thought the attempt to get Morison's shirt off was a definite penalty. And so did the South American commentator: "In Chile, in Peru, In Bolivia it's a penalty! In Argentina, in Brazil, in Coloimbia it's a clear penalty! In the whole of South America! All over the world! Ahhhhhhh - halsey!" Congrats to CH for turning things round after the Fulham debcle. As far as the lack of strikers controversy is concerned, and although I was sad to see Vaughan go out on loan (good performance from him today and scored against the Ipo), maybe the club doesn't need so many strikers on the books when it has so many midfielders capable of going forward and scoring, eg. today, Snodgrass, Pilks and BJ.

For the third week in a row, City's game was live over here. Today's game was some of the best football I have seen the boys play. Played at 100mph, nice passing and players looking like they know what one another do best. I like what I'm seeing Houghton get from them.
