Norwich City have unveiled their first team squad numbers for the new 2014/15 Championship season.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Among the notable changes from last season, club record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel has vacated the number nine shirt for new signing Kyle Lafferty. The Dutch international has been handed the number 20.

Last season’s team captain Sebastien Bassong will wear the number 30, with Russell Martin claiming his number five shirt. The City club captain was switched to central defence during part of Neil Adams’ spell as temporary manager towards the end of the recent Premier League campaign.

Steven Whittaker takes over Martin’s former number two jersey leaving the number three shirt one of three currently vacant in the 32-man squad listing. Robert Snodgrass’ number seven has been taken by Lewis Grabban following the Scot’s departure for Hull City.

  • From what I hear, while hes a striker mainly he can play the right had tip of a 4-3-3 formation and has been known to play right wing as well. (i've seen him play right wing live. Wasnt bad but wasnt amazing either.)

  • Rvw has chosen number 20 as a target for his goals this season ;) Bassongs basically out the door. I dont know if its just me but 7 isnt a strikers number Grabban to be the new simoen jackson but better I reckon pace and goals bring it on! OTBC

  • Why has Bassong even been allocated a number? Should be gone by now, surely someone wants him?

  • Or Lafferty with RVW (off the bench I suppose). Understandable Rickie has dropped down the pecking order, but hopefully this spurs him on to prove himself and get back in the goals.

  • Was thinking the exact same thing. Im assuming they will both hopefully spend the full season on loan rather than in short spells on loan.

  • Disappointed not to see Cameron McGeehan or Carlton Morris amongst the squad numbers. I think these guys would benefit from season loans at good clubs. Both have the potential to break into the first team.

  • Hooper played well with Celtic in a partnership with Anthony Stokes, a more physical striker, in a alternating front 2 partnership. I believe he could do the same with Lafferty with Redmond and Grabban the wide forward players. Power, Pace, height and accurate finishing.

  • I'd been positive that Hooper would be going (likely to QPR) up until those squad numbers were put up last night. With RVW, Bassong etc being moved and hooper keeping his no11 shirt it suggests to me that unless a silly offer comes in the club are not expecting to sell him. Thats my logic behind it anyway ;)

  • The Oracle has confirmed it anyway, Mattias. Celtic`s first game was May 28th 1888. Hooper was born January 1988. He nearly joined QPR at the time we got him (another `Hoops`) and may yet do that (?). Most of this stuff has been in our local public domain. Another factoid, which IS from Wiki, is that Celtic`s first game was a "friendly" vs Rangers. Celtic prevailed 5-2. Most of their players had been pinched from Hibs. It is truly gratifying that I have a new acolyte to echo my every enunciation. Any bets on Hooper going to QPR?

  • Id leave wiki alone Brew. Dunno if its been changed yet but the US secretary of defence had been changed to Tim Howard as of this morning! I'll tell you one player ill be keen to get a look at in the friendlies and thats Adel Gafaiti. I saw him in a few of the friendlies last summer and just noticed the pictures of him in the other article and couldn't believe how much hes grown. Towers above a lot of the squad. Thats another young defender atleast in an area we are short on.

  • Mattias, I think the Hooper thing was a `lucky number` issue. I think he was born in 1988 and also 88 has some significance to Celtic. Founded 1888? Worth a Wiki? ;-)

  • The real questions are 1) Has Wes taken the club as far as he can 2) Is he up to it physically anymore? 3) Has he lost his dedication to the club?. I think he doesn't fit into the football we seek to play going forward. Quick, punchy football utilising powerful players. You only have to look at Spain in the world cup to see that the tippy-tappy style of slow moving football and central midfielders of Wes' ilk are dying out. Wes is a luxury and for the odd sensational thing he does he makes a lot of mistakes and caught us in possession more times than I can count over the last few seasons. The number 10 role will be pivotal but I'm not sure Wes is the man you want in there.

  • While I agree, in some cases the squad number thing means nothing. Crickey, look at Hooper at Celtic, he had number 88 off memory. However if they mean nothing it does make me wonder why you move players like Bassong from 5 to 30....if they mean nothing.

  • The real story here is fixed squad numbers for the Murphy twins and loza at 16 is a great sign for him. Great to see Matthews included in the squad numbers as he continues to climb the ranks. Looks like bassong is off, awful last season. Becchio and surman are worth offloading as well we have better players. Looks like we are after a defender and at least one midfielder

  • Agree about the debate Goss. My stance has always been the same. Was injured a majority of the season and when he wasnt he suffered just like all the strikers did with a shocking lack of service. Im sure it will dent his pride what ever people say about the numbers meaning nothing. Does make me wonder that if these squad numbers mean nothing, why do people seem to switch on a yearly basis based on whose leaving\coming etc.

  • The situation is bound to change because several players are, I am sure, yet to leave and we must still be in the market, especially for a good creative, attacking midfielder in addition to Hoolahan. I would also hope we will sign a central defender, one who will have the stature to keep the defence on its toes, focussed and doing their jobs properly. We want to see no more of the inept defending we witnessed on numerous occasions last season - the likes of Villaand Man U away string all too readily to mind, where we were frankly Monty Pythonesque! As far as the attacking options are concerned, it looks like Adams has made intelligent signings up front. I am hoping whoever plays in that role will now have a midfield which can break at pace and which truly supports him(them) and wingers who can beat fullbacks and can deliver crosses into the box. I am sure some positive play and enthusiasm will be back at Carrow Road and that football is going to break out again here come August. However I remain cautious about our prospects of bouncing straight back. Sure, it must be an ambition. But in reality there are numerous good teams in this division and with experience of playing at this level. We have to adjust to that, to a new and hopefully more entertaining and attacking system and of course new players will need time to bed in. Anyway, while I travel with hope I am trying to remain realistic.

  • If anyone uses twitter here they will see Mr RVW isn't too happy about being bumped off to no20 without being told prior. He said "yes, I have been given number 20, I guess its just a number". Get the feeling hes slowly being forced out the club which is a shame as hes show how positive he is about setting a few records straight. Bassongs in the same boat still as hes been bumped off to no30 I see and replaced by Martin at no5. Yes I know its just a number but its a big thing to do when you think about it. A little worried Olsson hasnt changed to no 3, unless there is a personal reason and 23 is his lucky number etc. Just seems odd Whittaker has moved number without anyone taking his. Im assuming Gordan Strachan has got his wish and we will be seeing Russell Martin Centre back this season which is another subject that really divides opinion. Assuming Surman will be on his way after being given the no29. Could all be nothing of course but odd either way.

  • How flattering that you chaps think I may be worthy of a squit number. Cheers! I suppose aquad numbers don`t mean much, in terms of the playing position or the pecking order, these days? Though some seers see subtle, sophisticated secret signs signalling sequential selectorial significance. (Squitty enuff for you, Dubya ol` pal? ;-). In the Olden Days, No. 2 was RB; 5; CH, 9; CF etc. So you might read into that, for instance, that the preferred CB partnership is to be Cafu & Turner with Ryan B left right back in the dressing room. Like Dubya, I would`ve thought Olsson would get the "traditional" No.3 of the left back. Any news on that Pollyanna Potion\Eritrean parsnip wine concoction yet, DC?

  • marky, I meant that Olsson really deserves the number 3 shirt this season, Surely if anyone deserve that number, then Ols does. As for Brewer, he will keep his usual squit number XXXX. With Lafferty, you'd have thought they'd have given him 69, just for a laff ! As for RVW slipping on the 20 shirt, you can only speculate, is 'e orf somewhere or is he set to be the most expensive benchwarmer in the Chump ? My number is 99 with extra chocolate vermicelli ! I expect Hooper to leave so if this is the case, get ready for a long stint in the Championship. We have masses of money so we may as well spend it now cos if not, it will just wilt away in this league. No one in the Championship makes money
