Jamar Loza – one of the batch of rising stars emerging from Norwich City’s Academy set-up – has earned himself a call-up to Jamaica’s national squad.

Loza has played just 32 minutes of Premier League football for the Canaries, having come on as a second-half substitute in the final game of the season, against Arsenal at Carrow Road.

But the 20-year-old is highly-rated – last season he had loans spells at Coventry City, Leyton Orient and Southend United, whose hopes of extending his stay in April were turned down by the Canaries, who wanted him for first team duties. He joined the Reggae Boyz’ squad at the weekend ahead of the remaining two friendly internationals of a four-match tour.

Loza is from Kingston, Jamaica, and moved to England when he was six. He has been in the youth system since he was 15.

With his former Academy boss Neil Adams now in charge of the first team there is clearly an opportunity ahead – especially after he impressed against the Gunners.

“I thought Jamar did excellently on his debut,” said Adams at the time. “He is a player we have brought through the ranks and we sent him out on loan to get him some experience in men’s football.

“Jamar will certainly be one we are looking to get knocking on the door. Josh Murphy has played a part, his brother Jacob is out on loan and there are others coming through. It is vitally important for the club.”

Jamaica face Egypt at Leyton Orient on Wednesday and France in Paris on Sunday – would be a dream come true for City’s youngster.
