Chris Hughton admits Swansea’s prolific dangerman Wilfried Bony could have ended up at Norwich City.

Hughton revealed on Thursday Bony was on the Canaries’ European scouting radar prior to sealing his £12m move to Wales last summer, but City had already opted to recruit Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon.

Ivory Coast international Bony notched his 20th goal for the Swans in Tuesday’s Premier League draw at Arsenal and Hughton knows he is the man to stop when they head to the Liberty Stadium.

“He is someone we were aware of. I think he ended up going to Swansea for quite a large fee and at this particularly moment he is doing all he can to justify that figure,” said Hughton. “We were aware of the finances around that deal, as we were lots of other players. When you have a scouting network and in particular a European scouting network, it would be a surprise if we were not aware of players doing well abroad.

“He scored a lot of goals last season, but if I look at the players we wanted to target we had already done our work with Ricky well before the summer. He came in if you remember around about March time so we made our decisions quite early in that area.

“He is a player in form and there is no doubt about that if you consider the type of goals he has scored,” said Hughton. “Perhaps he took a little while to fully adjust but he is in full flow now and with Michu back they have really good offensive options.”
