Norwich City are keeping tabs on Empoli’s promotion-winning keeper Davide Bassi should the Canaries fail to hold onto first choice John Ruddy.
Italian-based football site, Tutto Mercato, claimed on Wednesday afternoon the 29-year-old could be a possible option with England international Ruddy already linked with a swift return to the Premier League following the club’s relegation.
Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Sunderland have all been touted as potential destinations for Ruddy this summer, although the City stopper has made it clear in the wake of missing out on a World Cup place with England he is prepared to play his part in the club’s Championship fightback.
Ruddy attracted interest from Chelsea 12 months ago before the St-Ives bred keeper signed a new deal keeping him at Carrow Road until 2017. Declan Rudd and Mark Bunn are also on the books for Norwich.
Bassi is poised to play in Serie A this coming season after Empoli were promoted behind champions Palermo. The former Italian youth international kept 14 clean sheets last season in 41 appearances for the club he joined in 2006. Cagliari and Sampdoria are also tracking the keeper, according to the report.
City chief Neil Adams made his first signing of the summer last week with a deal for Bournemouth’s prolific striker Lewis Grabban.
