Gary Hooper wants out of Norwich City this summer – at least that’s what the Daily Mail was claiming on Monday night.

The national newspaper stated newly promoted Queens Park Rangers – who were keen on taking Hooper to Loftus Road and the Championship last season – and Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in signing the forward from Carrow Road and returning him to the Premier League following Norwich’s relegation.

According the The Mail, the £5.5m summer signing has told the Canaries he wants to leave.

Having been a prolific goalscorer wherever he played, Hooper’s departure from Celtic was followed by 33 appearances last season and eight goals – including a brace at Watford in the League Cup.

He was City’s top scorer in all competitions, but that for a side with one of the lowest scoring records in Premier League history.

Hooper came to the top flight to force his way into the England set-up but struggled for goals, despite promising signs before the turn of the year.

However, the former Scunthorpe forward has two years left on his current City deal and Norwich have made a point of stating they don’t need to sell, despite the fall into the Championship.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports’ Football League presenter and Norwich City fan Simon Thomas may have eased the blow of the Daily Mail’s story by suggesting the Canaries will make a move for Blackburn’s former Ipswich striker Jordan Rhodes.

“Further to the #NCFC coaching news today, I’m led to believe a bid will be going in for Jordan Rhodes shortly,” tweeted Thomas.

Rhodes was at Ipswich as a promising youngster during Joe Royle’s tenure as manager – with Royle’s Carrow Road return as football consultant confirmed on Monday evening.
