Nelson Oliveira has returned to the Norwich City starting XI as part of five changes head coach Daniel Farke has made for this afternoon’s game against Barnsley at Carrow Road.

Grant Hanley comes in to the centre of defence alongside Timm Klose and James Husband returns at left-back, with Marco Stiepermann seemingly moving into midfield.

Josh Murphy and Mario Vrancic also return, having started the 2-1 loss at Bolton on the bench ahead of the break. Christoph Zimmermann, Wes Hoolahan, Harrison Reed, Yanic Wildschut and Cameron Jerome all drop to the bench, with James Maddison passing a late fitness test on his hamstring to start and Jerome a knock to his foot.

Barnsley make one enforced change from their 2-0 home win over Birmingham a fortnight ago, Adam Hammill coming in on the right wing for the injured Lloyd Isgrove.

Canaries academy product Cameron McGeehan starts on the bench for the visitors, having missed the win over Birmingham with a knock.

Norwich: Gunn; Pinto (C), Hanley, Klose, Husband; Trybull; Vrancic, Maddison, Stiepermann, Murphy; Oliveira. Subs: McGovern (GK), Reed, Zimmermann, Jerome, Watkins, Hoolahan, Wildschut.

Barnsley: Davies; Yiadom, MacDonald (C), Lindsay, Fryers; Williams; Hammill, Moncur, Potts, Barnes; Bradshaw. Subs: Walton (GK), McCarthy, McGeehan, Hedges, Gardner, Ugbo, Thiam

MATCH PREVIEW

Steven Naismith (ankle) misses out with a knock but Alex Pritchard (ankle) is training and may play for the U23s on Monday. Barnsley team news

Winger Lloyd Isgrove (knee) is set to miss out but midfielder Gary Gardner (leg) is back in contention. Defender Adam Jackson (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Barnsley manager – Paul Heckingbottom

Linked with the Sunderland vacancy this week but tried to calm the speculation. Former left-back made 16 appearances for City during 2002-03. Led his hometown club to promotion via the League One play-offs in 2016 and mid-table safety in the Championship last season.

One to watch – Harvey Barnes

Left winger is on loan from Leicester City for the season and has four goals and four assists to his name in the league from 13 games. Won the Golden Boot at the prestigious Toulon Tournament in France with the England U20s this summer and won Young Player of the Season at MK Dons after League One loan spell last season.

Referee – Scott Duncan (Northumberland)

Shown 44 yellow and two red cards in 17 games this season. Booked seven during City’s 1-0 win at Sheffield United in September. City left-back James Husband is one booking away from a one-game ban.
