Norwich City youngster Cameron McGeehan joins Luton Town on loan
Young Norwich City midfielder Cameron McGeehan has joined non-league Luton Town on a one-month loan deal.
The 18-year-old captained City’s Under-18 side to FA Youth Cup glory last season, scoring a penalty in each leg of the final against his former club Chelsea.
He has joined Skrill Premier Division leaders Luton for a month and is available for the Hatters’ league game against Wrexham at Kennilworth Road on Saturday.
McGeehan was rewarded for his FA Youth Cup heroics by being handed a two-year professional contract in the summer but has not been out on loan before.
“Cameron is all-action, he’s strong, he can play, he can tackle and he gets around the pitch really well,” Luton boss John Still told Luton’s official website.
“He worked with Jeff Wood [goalkeeping coach] at Norwich, and Jeff’s seen first-hand what a prospect this boy is.
“It’s another player we’ve had our eye on – another target that we have identified and brought in. That’s pleasing and having Cameron on board gives us another option in midfield.”
The Northern Ireland Under-21 international was originally with Fulham but was bought by Chelsea for £80,000 as a 10-year-old, before being released six years later.
“It’s a great opportunity for Cameron to experience senior football for a month,” Academy manager Ricky Martin told Norwich City’s official website.
“He’s also going joining up with a successful squad who are currently top of the league, which is very rare and will without doubt help his development a lot.”
