Winger Elliott Bennett is set to continue his injury comeback tonight when Norwich City Under-21s take on their Manchester United counterparts at Old Trafford tonight.

The 7pm kick-off is the penultimate game of the Under-21 Premier League for City, following last Friday’s 5-1 thrashing of Bolton Wanderers.

Bennett was joined in the Under-21 team by senior team-mate Luciano Becchio for the game, with both scoring, alongside a brace from Carlton Morris and a spectacular effort from Cameron Norman.

That was the first game for the City Under-21s since professional development coach Jerry Gill take over managemenet of the team, after Mark Robson stepped up to assist Neil Adams in preparing the first team.

Gill said: “We need to get ourselves into that 11th spot, because that’s where the leagues’ split – if we stay there, that’s fantastic. We want to play against the best teams in the Under-21s league.

“I’ll be doing everything I can, along with the rest of the coaching staff, to ensure that happens.”

The reigning Premier League champions’ Under-21s are sixth in the table and are managed by former Preston and Hull midfielder Warren Joyce.

“Arguably it’s the toughest test going to Old Trafford midweek, but we’re going to have a bit of support – the PDC are doing some tours so there’s going to be 150 Norwich supporters going, which will be brilliant,” Gill added, speaking to

“We’ll have a right good go. We’ve watched some clips of Manchester United and understandably they’re at the Under-21s level. They’re very open and expansive but they work very hard as well.”

  • Go for it, lads. I wonder if Becchio will get a game\part-game again? Plenty of recovery time before Sunday`s Liverpool match?
