Jonny Howson’s knee injury was the only downside for Norwich City boss Neil Adams from a competitive 1-1 friendly work-out against SC Bastia in Sallanches on Friday evening.
Howson departed shortly before the interval after tweaking his right knee in a fiesty contest which saw Anthony Pilkington cancel out Francois Kamano’s 65th minute close range finish.
Adams admitted he now faces an anxious 24 hours to assess the full extent of the midfielder’s injury. Alex Tettey (groin) and Lewis Grabban (Achilles) both sat out the final game of City’s tour whilst Kyle Lafferty is likely to miss Monday’s Carrow Road friendly agaisnt Nice after scans on Friday confirmed severe bruising to the same leg injured at Colney last week prior to heading out to the club’s Italian training camp.
“Jonny kicked through a player and he’s just tweaked his knee. He was in the changing room there with an icebag on it, and he said it doesn’t feel too bad. It’s the sort of one where 24 hours is key, so we’ll see in the morning,” said Adams. “Jonny Howson is a key player for us, so fingers crossed he’s ok. Kyle’s scan showed no tear on the muscle, just some bleeding which is best case scenario. He’s in a protective boot purely as a precaution. Best case scenario is three to four days for Kyle.”
Adams was delighted with his squad’s display against top flight French opposition.
“Overall I was pleased with the performance. I think we deserved to get something from the game, I would have been disappointed if we had lost it,” he said after the final whistle,” he said. “We dominated the ball, I think we had a lot more possession than them. We looked strong and we looked solid, there was certainly a much better use of the ball in the second half and we gave them a problem. They’re a good team. Claude Makelele is their manager and they like to pass the ball, but I felt overall we were the better side.”
