Norwich City chief Neil Adams is working overtime to find the right striker blend
Neil Adams is building a strike force for all seasons to ensure Norwich City last the course in the Championship promotion stakes.
Lewis Grabban and Kyle Lafferty have already been recruited to pep up a frontline which mustered a paltry eight league goals in last season’s Premier League relegation struggle.
Lafferty met up with his new team mates for the first time at the club’s St George’s Park training base and the Northern Irishman’s arrival is all part of Adams’ bid to solve the puzzle.
“He gives us something we didn’t have last year and something we didn’t have in the squad. We need to get a strike force with a diverse range of qualities and attributes,” said the City boss, who has also been heavily linked with a move for Coventry’s young striker Callum Wilson. “We were lacking in that department and that is not to say the players we had were identical in terms of how they like to play the game but looking at it tactically there was times in the season when we didn’t have an opportunity to have a plan B to shake things up.
“Bringing in a 6ft 4in striker gives us something different. You have to have a philosophy and a clear idea how you want the squad to play and Kyle fits into that.”
Grabban brings a prolific strike rate at Championship level after starring in Bournemouth’s top ten finish.
“We’ve got ourselves an excellent striker,” said Adams. “I’ve watched virtually all his games on clips and DvDs and watched him a couple of times live and I was very impressed with what I saw.
“We have spoken about the transfer strategy and the players we want to bring to Norwich City after the disappointment of last season and Lewis is one the fans will respond to.
“His work-rate will be the first thing they see and supporters love that commitment, but he is much more than a hard worker - he can receive the ball, he can run in behind and last season you saw the amount of goals he scored. He was one we were really keen to get in and we are delighted to get him here.”
