Norwich City are reportedly ready to step up their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Kasey Palmer, despite head coach Daniel Farke suggesting he is happy with his midfield mix in recent days.

Sky Sports claim the Canaries will move for the 21-year-old, who has previously spent time on loan at Derby and Huddersfield.

“We understand Norwich are expected to step up their search for a creative midfielder later this week with a bid for Chelsea’s Kasey Palmer,” Sky included in their daily transfer blog earlier today.

“Palmer joined Derby on loan in January after being unable to secure a regular place in Huddersfield’s starting line-up. The 21-year old played a key role in Huddersfield’s promotion to the Premier League.”

However, Derby fans have been getting excited about Palmer’s potential return, after the player updated his Instagram profile yesterday with a photo of himself in the Rams’ kit with an emoji suggesting his followers could expect some news soon.

Palmer had already been linked with Norwich and Championship rivals Sheffield United in the Daily Mail a month ago but that was before City had signed attacking midfielders Moritz Leitner and Emi Buendia.

With Derby’s new manager being Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, it would seem Pride Park is the more likely destination for Palmer.

The speculation also arrives despite Farke suggesting midfield matters are largely settled for this transfer window following the permanent return of Leitner.

He said: “I think this area on the pitch is good. We have some key players from last season still here – Alex Tettey, Tom Trybull, Moritz, Mario Vrancic. And you have Kenny McLean coming in, Ben Godfrey back, so in general we’re done in central midfield.”

Palmer scored four goals in 24 Championship games for Huddersfield during 2016/17, when City’s sporting director Stuart Webber was in charge of transfers at the Yorkshire club, during an injury-disrupted season loan.

He returned to the Terriers on loan after promotion but only made four Premier League appearances and scored two goals in 15 games for Derby during the second half of the campaign as the Rams suffered play-off semi-final defeat, although just two were starts.

The England Under-21 international started his football education at Charlton Athletic but joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of 12 and is under contract with the Premier League side until 2021.

The Blues are renowned for loaning out a host of talented youngsters each season and in recent days have sent Reece James to Wigan, Dujon Sterling to Coventry, Nathan Baxter to Yeovil and Trevor Chalobah.
