Wigan defender Donervon Daniels is reportedly being targeted as a summer signing by a trio of Championship clubs, including Norwich City.

The Sun claim the Canaries, Cardiff and Sunderland are all tracking the 24-year-old centre-back following a good first half of the season on loan at Rochdale in League One, as he is out of contract in the summer.

Daniels made 18 appearances for Dale but has returned to third-tier leaders Wigan for the remainder of the season, where he played a major part in their League One title success of 2015-16 but then missed most of last season’s Championship relegation campaign due to injury.

With his contract expiring and no compensation due as he’s over 24 the defender is free to speak to clubs already.

Daniels, born in Montserrat, didn’t make an appearance for West Brom but spent time on loan in League One with Tranmere and Gillingham before half a season in the Championship with Blackpool and the other half in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen during 2014-15.

The Canaries already have centre-backs Grant Hanley, Christoph Zimmermann and Marcel Franke on long-term deals but Switzerland international Timm Klose will have just 12 months remaining on his contract this summer and is still one of the squad’s highest earners.

Franke has returned to the German second tier on loan with Dynamo Dresden for the second half of the season after failing to settle after his summer switch from Greuter Furth.

Long-serving defender Russell Martin is also due to return from his loan at Rangers at the end of the season, when he would have a year left on his contract, with the club retaining the option for a further 12 months.
