Norwich City’s players will reimburse the Canaries fans that travelled to watch their side’s dismal performance at Swansea City last weekend.

Club skipper Russell Martin revealed the squad had felt a great deal of sympathy for the supporters that travelled to South Wales and wanted to make a special one-off gesture to show their gratitude.

A total of 899 paying City fans were at the Liberty Stadium to watch their side slump to a 3-0 defeat and those that travelled will receive the full refund of £20 (adult ticket) or £10 (concessions).

Martin said: “Our fans have been brilliant home and away this season and the numbers we get on the road are really impressive when you consider how far they have to travel up and down the country from Norfolk.

“All the lads really felt for the fans at the end of Saturday’s game, with most of them facing something like a six-hour drive home. Hopefully this will help them with the cost of travelling to our next away game at Fulham.”

It has certainly been hard going for the Norwich travelling contingent this season with only Cardiff showing a worse record than the Canaries away from home.

Manager Chris Hughton has admitted his side will have to turn to their home form to get the job done in their bid for survival and Martin hopes the Yellow Army will once again be in full voice for the visit of West Brom on Saturday.

“These next few games are obviously vital and the support and the atmosphere at our recent win over Sunderland at Carrow Road made a massive difference,” Martin told the club’s official website. “So hopefully they’ll get right behind us again this Saturday when we play West Brom, at Fulham and in all of our remaining games, to help us finish as high up the table as possible.”

Fans who bought tickets from the club for the Swansea match via credit or debit card will be automatically reimbursed on to their card. Those fans who purchased from the Club via cash or cheque will be sent their refund by cheque.
