Norwich City’s on-loan defender Sean Raggett is at the centre of a spitting controversy.
Raggett, on loan to Lincoln City, says he was spat at by Forest Green Rovers goalkeeper Bradley Collins during a League Two game on Tuesday night.
The incident sparked a brawl involving both sets of players.
Raggett took to Twitter to condemn the 20-year-old keeper – who is on loan from Premier League champions Chelsea.
“Embarrassing to have their goalkeeper spit at me during the game, makes the 1-0 win even sweeter,” wrote the centre-back.
Lincoln boss Danny Cowley was disgusted by the conduct of Collins.
“Their goalkeeper spat at Sean Raggett, we’re categoric on that,” he said.
“There’s no hiding from it, that’s what he did.
“Our players reacted as a consequence. We always want our players to keep their discipline, but sometimes when you’re provoked like that, naturally you can lose your cool.
“Sean did and a few of our players who saw it did as well. But it was instigated by their goalkeeper.
“We’re really disappointed by that.
“We’re hoping the officials will be able to see a video of it. I don’t think any of the officials saw it live so I can’t blame them.
“We’ll be looking back [at the footage] because you don’t want that in football. It’s one of the worst things you can do to another human being, it’s so cowardly.”
Raggett – who City signed from Lincoln in the summer and then immediately loaned back until January – suffered a head injury just two minutes into the game after an accidental collision with Rovers striker Christian Doidge which saw both players require lengthy treatment.
“He’s got a small cut on top of his head but Sean is as tough as they come,” said Cowley.
“Mike Hine [physio] did very well to patch him up.
“We stitched him up at half-time and he was fine after that.”
The Imps moved up to fifth in the table thanks to the victory at the New Lawn.
