Neil Adams will trust his instincts when it comes to spoiling Ryan Giggs’ managerial bow for Manchester United on Saturday evening at Old Trafford.

The Canaries’ chief admits Giggs’ interim appointment to replace David Moyes earlier this week injects a degree of uncertainty into whether the Welshman will opt for a radical overhaul. Adams, however, is drawing an obvious parallel with his first match in charge of Norwich at Fulham.

“I haven’t got a clue what he is going to do because we were looking at what David Moyes was doing and the patterns he was sticking to,” said Adams. “In that respect it is probably similar to Felix Magath. When we were down at Fulham he didn’t know what was going to come out there.

“What I would say is we have a good idea. I know Ryan Giggs has played a million and one games and also the type of character he is and the type of player he is. He is Manchester United through and through and that is his club, but until we get the team sheets before kick-off we won’t know for definite.”

Giggs has emulated Adams’ career path to the top job at his club, but the Norwich chief admits there is one crucial difference between the two rookie managers.

“He’ll certainly have his own ideas but like myself he has not come in from the outside,” he said. “He has been in the building, he has trained with the players every day so he knows their characters and what they are about. That was different to myself. I wasn’t quite in the same situation. I was coaching them at times in ones and twos but Ryan has been playing and coaching the first team. He will know which ones are ready and any changes he makes will be for the right reasons.”
